I am furious. When I turned on the TV this morning, instead of the promised daily Vuelta coverage, Universal Sports is broadcasting Joel Osteen preaching at some random baseball stadium! So I've been on the phone with Comcast all morning, vigorously complaining. Lot of good it will do.

Ah well, such is life here in the Bible Belt.

Keep me posted.

I think this is a very important stage, because it's the first chance for climbers to make a gap on a longer climb. I don't expect Rodriguez before the final K, but maybe VDB or Scarponi could attack between K8 en 4? Today will certainly make clear who the real favorites are. I wonder if Menchov, Nibali and Anton will lose time or not.
From the beginning of the climb, maybe guys like Sastre, Anton and Kruijswijk can launch their attack...

sastre prefers to get dropped first, then launch his recovery and attack @2 minutes behind.

as for kruijswijk doubt he would attack until the steeper gradients. inside the last 5-10km if he does.

To be fair to ITV, there isn't any action to show at the moment. The peloton is just waiting for the climb.

Ned Boulting has been covering the TdF for ITV since 2003, so is not a no-one in the cycling coverage world, and Matt Rendell knows a lot about cycling. Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they are crap.

Too much studio chat and its very annoying then ad breaks of 5 minutes at a time.
You clearly enjoy that so each to their own I suppose.

OK back to the race.

So once again - who is the best climber of the escapees, that will win the stage if they stay away? And can they stay away at this rate?

I agree there are too many ad breaks. And the first couple of stages when they broke for ads 5 seconds after the first person crossed the line....

But I am guessing they need them and it is better to have them while nothing is happening. ITV are at least putting something into their coverage.

Back to the race. :D Just over 10k until it starts

The breakaway is doomed. Lampre, Katusha and Euskatel want those bonus points, they're too precious.

I see that they have split.

Lang is best from pair 1.

Toribio is probably better in pair 2. *prepares to incur the wrath of the Dutchies*

No, they won't stay away.
