I have to say, the crowd on the climb isn't too bad, looks like many of them did the climb before the race.
The whole area looks interesting, but I can image that the wind can be nasty, pretty much no shelter.

Great finish with some random guy (at least for me) takes a long desired win away from Benoot.

I seriously thought I was witnessing Tiesj' first pro win there for a second.

I had a "now or never" feeling.
So yeah, it's never :D

Quickstep didn't really play their cards very cleverly on that stage. Burnt a lot of matches for little or no reason.

What happened to Gaviria? Was that climb too hard for him? Doesn't bode well for a guy who is supposed to be the next dominant force in classics

Ganna 2018 seems to be a clear improvement over Ganna 2017. Looking forward to the time trial.

He burned his matches trying to save his jersey on the final stretches.

Usually yes an he seems to be in great shape, but he has aways suffered in the heat, so I don't know what to expect.

gaviria isn't in the best shape here so relax, he will improve until san remo. But I still don't think he will be able to fight for the win on cobbled classics.

I'd like his first pro win to be something more than San Juan. Like Amstel (which should suit his characteristics).

I don't know what precisely happened to him. He was well positioned in the approach and in the first ramps, so he made the selection.
For some reason, Narvaez attacked with 3 to go and then everything broke loose, then it was Majka, then Benoot with 2.7Km to go (the ramp finished at 2.6 and the gap was merely 2 seconds). They didn't focus too much in the peloton during the downhill section but it appears that Narvaez was once again leading the group.
The little hill was 95m high with 1.3km long which gives an average of 7.3% (averaging Benoot and Narvaez activities on strava)

1.5k at 7%. Normally too hard for him. He is no Sagan after all.

Gaviria was in the front group after the hill, but fell back afterwards, for some reason
