It looks like Mullen timed his effort well, while the other strong TTists went out too hard trying to match his split and then died in the second half.

Well, yes. He got some very good placing against top competition in his neopro years at Cannondale but didn’t get wins when up against less exalted fields. I suspect that Trek will expect him to routinely put away TTs like this now that he’s a little older.

If Majka is in good enough form to podium the TT, surely he should be the cream of the climbers? I know it’s early season in Argentina, so weird results are normal, but quality is quality right?

I’m of the opinion he’ll be good. He seems to be in decent form and last year he started in fine form.

By the way, I am not sure that a reigning Irish TT champion has ever won a UCI ranked TT before. Obviously Irish riders have done so, but I’m having real difficulty thinking of one won by a reigning national champion.
