Back in the 2000s (early-mid) there was a rare edition in which the peloton basically gifted the race to a small break in the first stage, they got a huge gap.

The break was composed of one of the García-Quesada brothers, late Serge Baguet, Oliver Zaugg and two / three more riders.

That was in 2006 and both García Quesada brothers were in the break. In 2005 a similar thing happened, when Carlos García Quesada was leading the race after two stages. At the third stage a large break (about 30 riders) got clear and had a 30 minute advantage on what remained of the peloton in the end. García Quesada lost his red jersey to his teammate Francisco Cabello.

TV shows 5 minutes as well. With 28 kms to go, the climb is 8 km but not that steep ... if the wind isn't really hard they are going to make it.

According to the GPS the break has gone down 20 seconds in 40 kms with six teams riding on the front - Also the GPS is usually in a state of movement.

No way the peloton makes up 3 minutes on this climb. If it's actually 4 min still this one is for the break.

The GPS is not reliable at all. I don't think this is will be for the break, or if it will be, it will be by a very small margin.
