Contador to attack at 5km to go, Froome bridges up to him, they work together to the finish line 30s ahead of Nibali et al. Froome gifts Contador the stage, they share a handshake, then a hug and then a kiss....
Oh get lost, no one wants to see this
Not the Froome fans and not the Contador fans either, so let's just say it won't happen that way.

Those last 50kms cant be controlled right? I just cant see this being controlled.
Steep climbs, nasty descents and rain together in 50km in allready a short stage.

I just cant see this becoming a dissapointment besides one of the favourites crashing out on a descent in the rain because of taking risks.

Im also pretty convinced Contador wont eait until the angliru. His team will control the break and he will go early chasing for the stage win and a podium finish.

I hope he has the legs.

The horror.
What a travesty that would be.

He definitely won't wait for Angliru, which makes me fear for his chances to get the stage win.

8% Cobertoria and Cordal are easily controlled. Cobertoria has never been raced from far out even when climbed from the hard side on the way to an easier finishing climb.

Woud've wished for the San Lorenzo in this too, now the queen stages are 130km three climb stages.

Anyway, I hope they make use of the Cobertoria and San Lorenzo in different ways in the future. They're great climbs, but always too far from the finish

I suspect Froome will get dropped in the rain anyways but if somehow it is just Froome/Contador at the front of the race and the red jersey is sown up I don't see Froome contesting the sprint.

I really hope Contador pulls off something crazy but I'm afraid it'll be a very dull race :(

I'm hoping everyone stays safe.

Alex Zülle disagrees. He lost his chance to contest GC in 1993 descending Cobertoria in a stage that finished in Alto del Naranco. It was raining cats and dogs, the road was narrower, bumpier and had more challenging turns then. Road improvement works have made it wider and removed some turns. The climb is now shorter and steeper but the descent is easier.

He said yesterday he'd love to win on Angliru. No gifts.
Froome might as well try to win it himself, that way if Contador wins it would actually mean something to him.

FWIW, I think it's unlikely Contador will reach the finish first. Short stage and the rain are in his advantage, but I believe he will lose his chance to win by attacking early, and Angliru will be too long for him either way. I know his power estimates for the last few days have been through the roof, but it's not that special compared to short climbs on earlier occasions. He's always been world class in short efforts. He will struggle on a 45 minute climb like Angliru.

After long fight right from the start Antonio Nibali and Jarlinson Pantano finally joins a 16 rider breakaway, which includes also Daniel Navarro, Sergio Pardilla, Rafal Majka, Stefan Denifl and Igor Anton. Sky decides to let it go, saving some energy for later. Gap grows to 6 minutes. They're condfident the can control race later.

When peleton approches the early slopes of Cobertoria Franco Pellizotti waits no longer and attacks. It's clear the Shark of Messina is up to something. Famous and well known climer, Puccio that is, set up a higher rythm, but it's not enough to reel in Franco. 3 kms from the top of climb we've got what everyone was waiting for. Peter Stetina attacks with Alberto on his wheel. When the group is reduced to 10 riders Alberto attack himself. Zakarin and Lopez trying to join, but they just can't match the acceleration. 50 m down the road Gianni Moscon is asking his leader if he can pull them back. Kruijsvijk decides to have a go, while Contador pass Pelizotti. At the top of Cobertoria:
Breakaway
Contador 4'48"
Pelizotti 5'16"
Lopez, Zakarin 5'20"
Kruijsvijk 5'26"
Moscon, Nieve, Poels, Froome, Nibali, Kelderman, Woods, Bardet,, Aru, Bilbao, Roson, Mejientes 5'42"

The descent is wet, fast and cold. Some riders are more keen to take the risk. One of them is Romain Bardet. He flies though sky train like a bullet and there he is. Vincenzo Nibali is on his wheel deciding that's the moment. He'll try to give everything he can right now, he can't wait for Angliru.
These two fantastic descenders and mad risk-takers quickly catch up with Steven and Ilnur. 2 minutes later they pass Lopez. Sky is not risking, hoping they can control things uphill. At the foot of Cordal:
Breakaway
Contador 4'50"
Pelizotti, Nibali, Lopez, Bardet 5'05"
Zakarin, Kruijsijk 5'38"
Red Jersey group 6'01"

Contador waits for Nibali group. That's good decision as Franco Pellizotti goes full Blockhaus 09' mode. His pulls very hard for half a climb, that even Lopez starting to fade. After one last dig Nibali starts to pull and invites Contador and Lopez to do the same. Lopez refuses, but Contador don't mind. Gap is still growing. Moscon increases tempo, but Froome doesn't look good. At some point Wout Poels drops, it's clear that's not his day. Zakarin and Kruijsvijk are going strong. Kelderman looks strong, but also worried. At the top of Cordal:
Majka, Denifl
(...)
Nibali, Contador, Lopez 2'18"
Zakarin, Kruijsvijk 2'50"
Moscon, Nieve, Froome, Kelederman, Aru, Woods, Meijntjes 3'34"

Cordal descent is short, but technical and narrow. Wet conditions and tiredeness make it ever worse. Nibali leave his companion behind and joins his brother. Pantano waits for Alberto. Zakarin and Steven try to limit loses.

Poels might be gone but there is another dutch riders who helps Froome. That's Wilco Kelderman protecting his podium spot. But don't be mad at him. He has every right to do so. More bizzare is what Louie M doing though. Being afraid of Sergio Pardilla who is in the break, he decides to finally pull himself! Every group on the road is totally killing themself on the first Angliru drag and ride as hard as they can. Contador attacks and leave Pantano with Lopez behind. Soon he joins two Nibalis. Igor Anton and Dani Navarro are catched and start to work. They want to show the respect for the great champion, Contador that is, for the last time.
7km to go:
Majka, Denifl
Anton, Navarro, Nibali, Nibali, Contador 1'31"
Lopez 1'58"
Zakarin, Kruijsvijk 2'27"
Nieve, Froome, Kelderman, Aru, Woods 3'03"

Virtual GC: Froome, Nibali (5"), Zakarin (1'53"), Contador (2'02"), Kelderman (2'17")
Still, we've got the 7 hardest kms of this race ahead. As soon as gradients hit double digits Contador starts to dance on his pedal and leave aerodynamic shark in the dust. It's not clear he's so strong or Nibs is so tired. Nibali finally finds a better rhythm, but gap is continuously growing.
Majka and Denifl have a great fight, but when they see Contador closing in, they're accepting their fate. He seem to push harder with every meter. Super motivated he pass them like a rocket. Nibali is riding his own race hoping that Froome won't go faster than him. Kelderman and Froome give strong turns and they both went clear from others.
Unbelievable! Time gaps, shows that 3 km to go Contador has a minute over weakening Nibali! Froome is 2'30" behind. People wanted Contador to win the stage, but bearly no one believed he could still fight for overall. 3 km to go. Last 3 km of climbing in his career. This performance is strongest in years. It's amazing he still got that in him. No pressure, just pure adrenaline. He finally cross the line and alltogether with whole spain starts to cry.
The watch is ticking. There's thick fog everywhere. We lost signal from motos. We can only see the finish line. A minute passed, but still no one came! Where is Nibali?! Seconds pass, and now we can see red jersey. But wait, this is Kamaz! Ilnur Zakarin must have overtaken Nibali before and now is arriving second! Excitement is growing to the levels it's hard to handle it.
Oh no... Nibali is already here. He cross the line at 1'40". With time bonuses, he's 11" better that Alberto in GC. Now waiting for Froome...
Contador
Zakarin 1'17"
Nibali 1'40"
Lopez 1'59"
Majka 2'26"
Kruijsvijk 2'31"
Denifl 2'52"

Froome has a bad day and rivals took advantage of it attacking so early. He still had a big gap though and is still fighting for overall win. We can see the red jersey of this fantastic climber, who can do the double this year! 10 seconds left, 9 seconds left, 8... Can he do it?!
Elbows so wide he pushes spectacors on both sides of barriers, looking down at stem, he sprinting to the line in furious pace. 2 seconds!
Froome 3'15"
Will the last day be calm? Can Froome bounce back having team that strong? Crosswins? Team sprint? Who knows...
GC after 20 stage:

From Wikipedia:
"During stage 15 in 2002, riders climbed the Angliru in rain. Team cars stalled on the steepest part, some unable to restart because their tires slipped on messages painted by fans.[2] Riders were caught behind them and others had to ride with flat tires because mechanics could not reach them. David Millar crashed three times[3] and protested by handing in his race number a metre from the line. The judges ruled he had not finished the stage and he left the race.[4][5] He regretted his temper - he had been ninth - and apologised to his team.[2]"

Majka FTW.
Overall:
1. Froome
2. Nibali
3. Keldermann
No serious GC attacks before Angliru. Sky train in perfect shape, I hope.

An epic stage with some proper nibali voodoo would be neat.... but most likely froome, the other main players and 4+ sky finish within 30sec of one another.

I had a dream. I was on Angliru and could clearly see further down Nibali, Contador and Froome powering up the climb, not many spectators in that section. Then suddenly one guy threw off violently Nibs from his bike. Contador and Froome stopped to see what's going on and maybe wait for Nibs to get back on his bike. But Nibali had other things on his mind, he wanted to settle the score with that guy, I was hoping Guardia Civil will intervene but nobody was around. A brawl ensued and Nibali went after that guy totally uninterested in the race. Contador and Froome continued their climb soon getting out of the picture. I was shouting to Nibs to let the man go and get on his bike but his only problem was that particular guy, minutes were ticking away.

Perturbed fans only go after riders wearing red. Ask Belkov.

Why of all people would anyone hit Nibali off his bike? :(
