How is the weather???
Cold, but supposedly less rain than previously predicted
f*ck

Always amazes me how, during an activity as dangerous as flying down 10% gradients at 90 kph on 2 bits of 27mm wide rubber, people would like to see it made an even more dangerous spectacle by having it done with virtually no traction, just for their own viewing pleasure. It's part of cycling, I get that, but it just seems as blood thirsty as boxing fans wanting to see one guy carried out on a stretcher. Weird.

I'm hoping it stays dry, everyone gets down safe and it's a great race anyway.

Just hope Nibali voodoo stays out of it today and everyone stays safe. Been a fascinating race with emergence of Lopez and fluctuating performance of the big 3. Personally hoping for the Froome double and a great last stage win for Bertie. Two incredible athletes.

Just started watching Pedro Delgado's preview for the Angliru...In case you want to watch it yourself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlRlFaG4NRY
Perico is 57, and looks like he would still finish in the middle of the field if he were racing. He's been riding up Angliru for years and putting many of those to video. He must live near there, or "enjoy" the climb. If you undersand any spanish at all, this is fun to watch, from some years back now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xs1DicRFjE

Perico Delgado is a star, he is commenting the broadcast of Tour, Vuelta, etc in Spanish TV (TVE, TDP). In Vuelta, he has a section (you can watch on YouTube) called "los Pericopuertos" (the Pericoclimbs) where he climg the most important climbs of each Vuelta. The day before and the day of the race, Spanish TV shows the climbs of the stage and the "Pericopuertos" of the day.

The untrammelled joy on this forum after Froome's crashes and injuries was more than a little unpleasant.

What a s**t comparison. Nobody is hoping for any rider to actually fall. We're hoping for conditions that exacerbates differences, that create more fight and less control.

I like to ride in the rain.
Was better when I was super fit though.
This too. I hate it and love it at the same time. I love it because it makes me feel like Hinault at LBL and gives it an epic vibe but I hate it because you need to clean the bike more thoroughly afterwards.

Mainly headwind on Angliru. Until Les Cabanes headwind so doesn't make sense to attack b4 last 7.0-6.5 km. I'm surprised if <44 min. #LV2017

Hmm that will make it hard

8% Cobertoria and Cordal are easily controlled. Cobertoria has never been raced from far out even when climbed from the hard side on the way to an easier finishing climb.

Woud've wished for the San Lorenzo in this too, now the queen stages are 130km three climb stages.

Anyway, I hope they make use of the Cobertoria and San Lorenzo in different ways in the future. They're great climbs, but always too far from the finish
Alex Zülle disagrees. He lost his chance to contest GC in 1993 descending Cobertoria in a stage that finished in Alto del Naranco. It was raining cats and dogs, the road was narrower, bumpier and had more challenging turns then. Road improvement works have made it wider and removed some turns. The climb is now shorter and steeper but the descent is easier.

In fact, Cobertoria decided the Vuelta of 1993.

The road of this descent has been changed a few years ago. Now, it's a descent less dangerous (not so many curves) but with a bigger porcentaje, it makes the climb harder when you climb it from the other side (from Pola de Lena, I had a girlfriend from there by the way).
