Even with the great job they did, etix still somehow managed their traditional fail in the end

Team Sky wore a leader's jersey in the Tour/Vuelta for 38 days out of 42.
Not good for neutral fans.
Or fans biased against Sky. :D

Really surprised me they defended it so much the first week, but it didn't matter since they was so strong anyways.

didn't vino steal 5th place from levi on the champs?

should lemond not have tried to win beat fignon in 1989 final ITT?

lol. the ceremonial last stage is bs the way it has become.

anyway the green jersey is supposed to recompense the most consistent rider - not the best sprinter (see Sagan, Kelly, Zabel, VanSpringel, etc...)

and if you love the vuelta for all its hilly stages, then the green jersey most likely should go to an all-rounder.

No, that's what the leader's jersey is for.

Green jersey in the Tour doesn't reward the most consistent rider, otherwise all stages would give equal points. The competition actually is not in Sagan's favour, he's just so good and talented that he wins it anyway.

The Vuelta Points Jersey is so flawed it becomes pointless.

u r 100% wrong.

the points jersey is traditionally for the the rider who PLACES most consistently throughout the race. In that way it is different from the GC that is based on time.

again, see sagan, kelly, van springel, zabel...and many many others...NOT the best sprinters.

Then why doesn't it give equal points for every stage in the Tour?

As for traditions: blindly following ancient traditions and customs does not mean the dead are alive, but that the living are dead.

I love that quote, I can use it in so many situations to back up my argument.

points have always been different for flat and mountain stages. even TRADITIONALLY.

again, sagan, kelly, zabel... all riders who could place or gather points even on a tough stage.

sure organizers want other, non-gc riders to compete, but if you construct a RIDICULOUS parcours that has 11-13 MTFs, then hard to complain with the GC winner also winning the green.

16 stage wins in gt's for quickstep. Wow! What a wonderful season, it could have been better if gilbert didn't have fallen in amstel.

also, reason they got rid of the "combine" white jersey at the TDF and replaced it with the "best young rider" white jersey is precisely because - generally - the gc winner would also win white. just as happened with the vuelta, which is really not a grand tour any more. it is a test of for who is the best climber.

the vuelta has been absolutely ridiculous for many years now. not GT material at all. forever the weakest and least significant of the GTs...

Like I said, neutral fans.
It is a fact that sky ruins cycling

No that's an opinion.

Edited by King Boonen: post not poster please.

5 of the top ten today should not have been allowed to start, top 5 legitimate riders were Andersen, Garcia, Modolo, Schwartzmann and Hoelgaard.

I consider Villella's KoM title to be invalid, as would Trentin's green have been.

Not acceptable to simply decide that the rules will not be applied: that is not sporting.

It isn't a opinion. It is a fact demonstrated for what we saw in the last 5 years on gt's. 2017/2012/2016 tours were the worse tours of my life and many others say the same

Trentin (as accurately as I can remember): "[Froome] told me he was defending it, and he made it... winning four stages but not the jersey is kind of a joke, but I will survive".

True, but even so, I don't think the people on this forum were crying when Cavendish won 6 (2009) and 5 (2010) stages without winning green.

Plus had the rules been properly enforced, Trentin wouldn't have been in the race after yesterday.

I suspect AC would have been given this even if he had ridden like Meintjes.

Looks odd having the whole team up for the most combative rider award though, or those guys who have only been with him this year, and only in a couple of races, to be part of his retirement podium.

So Adam Hansen finished the race, has anyone seen him during this race?

I did, for about 10 seconds today when they were talking about the record. For 99.99% of the Vuelta, he's been a ninja.

This. It is not fair to be allowed to sprint against the guys who finished with the limit.
I wonder how Trentin sprint would be if he had to work harder yesterday.
