He's looking good considering he was part of the Giant group that got run over. Fingers crossed for a top 5 at LBL!
Great result form Barguil he seems to have engine for longer races, always close to top30 in monuments. Obviously this one is a breakthrough. If only he had some killer move to get some wins...

I feel like he was watching the favourites too much rather than riding his own race and he was just too far back when he realised that the group wasn't coming back. Very encouraging though, French cycling has some great, young talent coming through.

It seems like we're back straight in the mid nineties...lots of young french climbers coming through!
Barguil and Bardet are the most promising so far, with Pinot still trying to make that quality leap.

He's already 22 though, and his best result so far is probably a podium at Le Samyn, but apart from that he hasn't done much

Well, the conditions of the race considered, I think Senechal did quite a good job in Samyn. If anything, he showed that he can withstand rain and cold weather, when others cannot. But apart from that I agree he is not an obvious future cobbles specialist.PremierAndrew said:

He was always going to struggle with the TT, but he's only 18 seconds back. I think being a favourite is going to make people watch him and I wonder if he'll ride for a podium rather than the win, but he certainly has a chance. To think about what happened earlier in the year I'm very pleased to see him up there

He's a pretty safe bet for the white jersey at the end of this. I expected Bardet to come out on top after a close battle with Barguil but then I realised that bardet is no longer eligible, so Barguil literally has no other serious rivals any more

Yep, I think that's spot on. I think he might be the only GC team leader who is eligible for it?
That said, I'm wondering if going for the white jersey is going to hold him back a bit and he'll be more likely just to follow wheels than try something. Especially as he has pretty much no-one who will be with him in the high mountains, except maybe Dumoulin and ten Dam?
Either way, I'm very glad to see him performing so well so far this season after what happened at the Giant training camp. I'm also very glad there is a high level of competition between French riders now too.
