Go over to the Pogi thread and say his bike has a motor and he's not racing on bread and water! Fanboys and bots galore will reply.
I think that specific stuff should be left to the Clinic, but otherwise yes! Especially right now before the Tour there are non-Clinic threads I don't even dare to enter, I think social media and some sort of Netflix cycling shows have gotten the superfans all kinds of revved up.

Was it like this with fans when 24/7 cycling news didn't even exist? (I only started following cycling about 10 years ago, so wouldn't know.)

Merckx did famously get punched back in the day, Cav and numerous others (including Froome) have been doused with various "fluids" and the second ever Tour de France in 1904, "...fans of hometown rider Antoine Faure formed a human blockade and beat the men until [journalist Geo] Lefevre arrived and fired a pistol to break up the melee. Later in the race, fans protesting the disqualification of a local rider placed tacks and broken glass on the course." So online flame wars (as occured on the forum) are just all part of the "rich tapestry" of pro-cycling! :D
