is just a rank based on the amount of posts. don't read too much into it. after like 200 posts you become senior member and thats it :p

Thanks, Parrulo!

timing doesn't allow me to live stream TDF on a european 'from sport' channel like i was able during giro d'italia in may.

but i have "versus" on DVR, lol...

...and you guys on the cyclingnews forum, which is way more entertaining and informative! :D

Was wanting to post a picture on the all important cat thread. My picture posting privilege doesn't seem to be activated. I cannot find a way to do that manually. I think I read in FAQ I can't do the forum gods have to, or something like that.

Can someone please help me?

Hola mundo

So, I'm new and relatively bewildered by the member status: junior, senior, administrator, banned, etc.
Anyway, it appears as though climbing the ladder in the cyclingnews forum relates to the number of posts rather than quality. If that's the case, should I put myself on a posting schedule? Like a hundred posts today, two hundred tomorrow...and so on? OR, could this attempt backfire and land me in something lower than Junior Member? (Just trying to fit in)...

Assuming that is a serious question......

The only ranks here are junior, editor-in-chief, and senior. They are solely based on the number of postings. Bulk posting simply to increase your numbers is heavily frowned upon.

Admins and mods are those responsible for the forum.

Banned means, well, banned. It is probably not a status you want to aim for.

WELL, Thanks Susan for the clarification and thanks even more for taking my question seriously...which is uncharted territory for Quixote. So, ah-hem...getting "banned" is something that won't happen to me...I simply don't have the inertia to be that offensive. I've had some experience being "frowned upon" which usually leads to an endless cycle of appologies...also something I'll try to avoid. But yet, how does one elevate himself above the Junior Member status?

Well, three posts today...each one more poignant than the other...but yet, I'm still a Junior! Attaining a higher status seems hopeless. But I'm not going to give up. Tomorrow, I'll produce a post so profound that the Pulitzer committee will consider it for an award...maybe that will do it.

you will be a senior member after 100 posts. Cyclingnews will then send you an email with the secret handshake so you may enter the senior member area.

AN EMAIL, SECRET HANDSHAKE, SENIOR MEMBER AREA...IS THAT IT!!!
Well, what a letdown. As a Senior Member I was expecting Cyclingnews media passes for the TDF and Paris-Roubaix. This comes as a great shock! How was I so mislead...perhaps it was something that "Sticky" character had mentioned. Who knows...I got a bit distracted by the Babes on Bikes thread when I should have been reviewing the FAQ section at registration.
Anyway, if that's all a Senior Member gets, it appears as though I set my sights too low. How about those Administrators...VIP treatment at the Tour I suppose?
At any rate, thanks krebs303 for leveling with me. Now that I know it's a numbers game (100 posts), at least I can set a goal.

Hi everyone, I'm Jordan. I'm a 18 year old university student in Canada (born and raised). I mostly watch the tour due to lack of tv coverage and I can't afford the amount of streaming it would take to watch the Giro, Vuelta, Monuments, WCs, etc. I bike a bit, mostly to get from place to place on a cheap Wal-Mart style mountain bike (18 gears, heavy) and in trails with my friends. My favourite riders are: Mark Cavendish, Lance Armstrong, Ryder Hesjedal, both Schlecks (mostly Andy). I've been watching cycling for about 5-6 years and my favourite moment (at the time) was Landis' solo breakaway in stage 17 of the 2007 tour de france, too bad that it was a product of doping but at the time it was great. I'm mostly on the Professional road racing area of the forum but am sometimes on the general and in the clinic.

You can usually find plenty of free online streams on race days. Either someone will post them on the forum, or you can bookmark these sites:

http://www.steephill.tv/
http://www.cyclingfans.com/
http://teamskyfans.com/ (TSF is a user on the forum and he always posts links and highlights after)

There's (almost) always an English feed, but sometimes I find it rather enjoyable to watch in other languages, don't know why though!

Welcome Jordan. Those links that Jobiwan posted are a great way to watch live coverage - right about the time that most university students are going to bed mind you, but we pay a price for living in heaven. Beware of The Clinic, you might end up changing your list of favourite riders! And those Walmart bikes are great for when you just have to ride around the student union building loaded, including the obligatory stunt into the fountain.

I watch M-SR in Italian every year and most of the classics in Flemish or Dutch. They're typically more entertaining that way. If they're televised though, I don't mind Ligget and Sherwen; it's more comfortable sitting on the couch than at the computer :D

Hi all! I'm 47 office worker in the trucking industry. I commute 3.25 miles to work and take a longer route home each day. I also go for much longer rides on the weekends. In my youth I was a great distance runner with a pr of 4:36 for 1600 meter. I ride now to lose weight and to be in better health. So far this year I've logged over 1600 miles and will likely do my first metric century this Saturday. I've a hybred bike that I've had to upgrade a bunch of parts on. I'll mostly just lurk learning and laughing.

As a more senior member you get more CN friends :D Course you dont actually know what they look like, their names or who they are, with a few exceptions, 2 named Ruben, but they are all great friends nonetheless. Maybe someday some of us will meet.

I do really regret not trying to meet Libertine Seguros after I heard it might be a girl, and the poster was in Madrid for the Vuelta.

I'm nearing a thousand. Checked out of the forum for about year, so it should be more. I think I should do something big for my additional digit though. Might go and get myself banned. :p

I think a large percentage of us started as lurkers...ok that doesn't sound right. I have a long way to go for that 4th digit in posts. Long time to think how to celebrate. I will check the suspension list to see if that ban plan came together.

I love cycling and have actually learned some here...I still talk more about posts than I post?.. Easier to speak/laugh/yell/curse than type at times.

I wasn't really lurking, just stopped coming. When I posted here as often as I do now, I had an office job and popped in every so often to take a break from work. When I left the forum, I was working at a bike shop and as a Certified Trainer. It was crazy hours away from the computer. I also grew tired of it, honestly. Now I'm in law school living a life devoid of cycling related discussion :(.

I've learned a lot from the forum and have really grown as a cyclist, mechanic, and fan just by reading comments from so many different types of people from around the world. I'm really not the same person I was when I first registered; dare I say I think I'm a more sophisticated fan now. Hopefully, some will agree. ;)

I've also realized I don't always have to talk about cycling in this forum. The Cafe and the NFL thread is a perfect way for me to stay active even when other cycling related threads don't appeal to me. It prevents the senseless arguments I grew so tired of.

Only two more posts to go. :D
