Having a yarn to a friend on facebook earlier, and he told me of his adventures in Belgium, where he had chocolate beer. He said it tasted more "fruitey" then anything, for a non beer drinker he liked it. I have to say I have not heard or tried this before.

I had a chocolate porter on tap recently and for the life of me can't remember who made it. Very good, although it's what I call a winter beer. I like these heavier beers in the cold dark season. I would not call it fruity though, but that's probably just a difference in the yeast. I just picked up a growler of Yukon Brewing chocolate malt, will let you know what I think.

Wow, those girls (??) are, um, not super-attractive

So I just received an email (my wife did actually) from some friends in Brugge. They have an appointment at Sint Sixtus next week to pick up 3 cases of Westvleteren 8 for us. They are champagne drinkers so I'm fairly optimistic the beer will be there when we arrive in April for the Ronde.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about...

Glass only. In fact the Belgians will not pour a beer unless they have the glassware that goes with the beer they are pouring. Each Belgian beer has it's own glass. There are over 4,000 different Belgian beers and each beer glass is unique. The whole way they do it is just very very cool. They (the Belgians) definately have turned beer drinking into an art form.

I love the speciality glasses that go with the beers, I think that it makes the drink.

A few years ago over here the local off licences went through a phase of doing packs of 3 bottles of beers with a glass thrown in. I collected quite a few.. just checked the cupboard and am now down to just 3, 2 Hoogarden (different shapes) and a Leffe.

This evening I had a couple of pints after work, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Greene King Abbot Ale.

Now if i could just find that bloody bottle opener;)

I would say that the mayo and salsa are outnumbered!

I'm currently drinking a 1554. I'm a fan of stouts, porter's etc. 1554 is at least dark.

The Ocktoberfest in Bright Australia

The Bright Brewery is having their Oktoberfest on the 25th of October in Bright, Australia of course.
They make great beer & they are situated in Australia's premier mountain riding country, Road & mtb.
http://www.brightbrewery.com.au
The two young brewers are keen riders as are some of the staff.
Australians, 25th of Oct, great beer & great riding in a great valley, what more are you waiting for..

Well, all I can say to that is that it is cool to actually see a real image of a fellow forum regular. Sometimes it's hard to put a face with the online persona, so when the chance comes it's good. I would just like to say "whatzup, Scott Socal".:D

That's not me in the drunk guy video... it's not... I swear. No, really.

I don't remember much from that day but I'm pretty sure I would not, um... no, definately not me.

you look taller on tv.:D

But only in the horizontal plane.
Hey Scott, I found 2 new beers in my local shop from the Angel City Brewery, a local effort, called "Belgian IPA" and "Belgian Night Train" they both seemed pretty good to me. Try them if you find them, or stop by and I'll buy you one or three.

I guess I'd agree with the reviews although the one seemed a little harsh. I'd say it depends on expectations, since they are brewed in LA I wasn't expecting a really good Belgian beer. I did like the IPA better but I had a Lefe IPA at Back Abbey and it was better than the Angel City. On the whole I'd have to say Craftsman Brewing in Pasadena kicks Angel City's a$$. By the way Spooky Cross saturday in Irvine, night cross race with beer tent, band, costume race etc. First race at 2:30 PM cross clinic before, Elite Womens Race at 6:30PM elite Men at 8PM. Info at http://www.socalcross.org come one come all! Local folks that is.

It's funny how discriminating you get once you know what you like, taste-wise. You can get a good Belgian Beer education at The Backabbey.

A friend of mine celebrated a birthday over the weekend and we organized a beer tasting party. The podium ended up being Koeningshoeven Quaddrupel in first, Gulden Draak Tripel a close second with Kwak in third. We tasted ten different beers. All in all, a really fun evening.

Beer garden at the cross, eh? I'll be the guy in the back who falls and can't get up...

Pumpkin Beer/Ale

Tis the season for all things pumpkin including beer. I've only had a couple... the most recent being by the Great Lakes Brewery. Not bad. I'd drink it again.

Any thoughts/suggestions for this seasonal brew?
