Leffe Christmas (and my usual Leffe Blonde) last night while watching some taped Lions games at a friend's house. Nice drop.

Here is something different. Brewed by Firestone in Paso Robles, CA, serve in a snifter, about 60 degrees (F), really complex with big chocolate, coffee and oak barrel notes and very, very dark. 11% ABV :D

If you can find it, buy it. Only 500 cases were brewed.

Don't know much about non-belgian beers...

Well at the moment I have actually taken a break from my usual diet of IPAs to try a beer that I picked up at my local liquor store. It is from "Brewery Ommegang" which claims to be from Cooperstown NY. I chose it because I grew up not too far from there.
Upon perusing the label I notice that it is actually brewed by Duvel in Belgium, however it is darker that the Duvel I have had before.
Maybe Scott has heard of this, and can fill me in on where it stands in the range of Belgian type beers.

Ommegang is owned by the Moortgaat family that brews Duvel. They also brew Maredsous. Definate Belgian roots, no doubt. Beer Advocate has some pretty darn good ratings for all the Ommegang beers.

My best advice is not to drink it too cold. If it is darker than Duvel then it is probably a double or quadrupple so drink it around 58 degrees (F). Out of a chalise, of course.

I wish that I could say that I haven't met a beer that I don't like.
I drink in my GENES:
Irish: Guinness
German: FranzisKeiner Dunkelweiss
other favorites:
Hennepin
Dupont Saisson Farm House Ale or any good Farm House Ale

That's about what I drink on a regular basis, but I am always glad to try a new one,and I have done that many times.

When I lived in Belgium...Orval and Westmalle double...Orval on tap is just friggin unbelievable...if you are in Antwerp, De Konninck is awesome and cheap as it is brewed right there...a great beer.

Here in the states, even after all the damn microbrews and interesting beers and there are alot of good ones...I still think Sam Adams is the very best...

I just has a St Bernadus Pater. Pretty damn good, but not the best ever.

What really brought me here tonight is I had a Peroni last night. Does anyone share the same belief that a cold Peroni is the absolute wettest beer on the planet? What is the wettest beer you have had?

I couldn't resist and bought myself these two gift packs of Belgian beer (Maredsous - Blonde, Bruin and Trippel; and Leffe Blonde, Stelle Artois and Hoegaarden), mainly for the glasses:

Moinette Blonde by Brasserie Dupont is also a very good beer, if not better than Saison Dupont. My favourite Belgian Brewery is Brasserie Dupont.

Maredsous is gorgeous. They sell it on draught in De Hems in Soho.

I am also partial to Adnams Broadside, Mighty Oak Burntwood, Timothy Taylor Porter. But I'm not fussy and will happily work my way through a beer list. My pub of choice on bike rides is The Swan in Little Totham, closely followed by the Chequers in Goldhanger, where I can try lots of different beers...

I'm also rather partial to Jupiler, but my holiday beer of choice is Mythos in Greece.

Have your beer and eat it too.

Guinness Sundae

One 15 ounce can Guinness or other stout beer
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons butter, cold and diced
Vanilla or butter pecan ice cream
Accompaniments: Shortbread cookies

Bring one 15 ounce can Guinness and 1/2 cup sugar to a simmer in a saucepan over low heat and cook until syrupy, about 40 minutes. Whisk in 3 Tablespoons diced cold butter. Drizzle the Guinness caramel over vanilla or butter pecan ice cream. Serve with shortbread cookies if you have some.

Beer and ice cream mmmmmmmmmmmm!

I never have more than two. One of these is a porter and the other..... I don't remember.
