Heard Socal did 4 jugs of beer at once. Therefore Socal > everybody else.

Yes, but they were only 2 litres each. I think B Jeff has bigger juggs.

What beer are you drinking right now?

Beer is something mostly limited to salty / greasy meals for myself, or any wild mushroom meal. Most anything that isent light is fine by me, MillerGD is pretty good, High life is ungodly nasty though. I prefer sweet concord wines ( Read as, typical kosher wines ) / agave liqour though, so my own opinon of beer isent worth too much. Grolsch is very good though, but I sometimes think your paying almost as much for the hinge cap bottle as for the beer.
Cheers

Found a nice bar in Manhattan this week called the Brass Monkey. Tried some beers from this thread.

Cooper's Pale Ale. Not bad. Nothing special but it sure elevated my opinion of Aussie beer after my attempt to drink a Foster's circa 1989. Still have that horrible taste in my mouth.

Chimay Triple. Excellent. Redeemed Belgian ales after my so-so experience with Duvel. This was served in the Chimay glass, which was cool, and I think at the right temperature.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout. Also excellent. Tried it in a bottle here, and then on tap at Stout NYC. Far better on tap. Just a fantastic stout.

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Duvel is a mediocre beer, as most belgians know ;) Good, heavy, but nothing special.

About the chimay glass: it was designed by the architect who renovated the abbey.

In defence of Aussie beers, no Australian likes Fosters either! We just export the stuff (or let the Canucks make it!).

I don't know that the glass makes any difference, but it does make the experience a little nicer.

Ah, good. Funny thing about Canadian beer, much of the swill that is mass produced is horrible stuff, but small-batch regional beers are among the best I've ever tasted. Probably much the same in the US. I wonder why we insist on marketing cheap crap to the masses... must be a matter of economics, ie "I'd rather drink 15 Lucky Lagers for $10 than pay $12 for 6 fine ales."

Ofcourse it does! Just like you don't drink champagne in a wine glass, you don't drink Hoegaerden in a Palm glass, or duvel in a Hoegaerden glass.

Some of my glasses:

Tripel Karmeliet is, I think, my favorite tripel with the possible exception of Gulden Draak...

But both are totally different styles of beer?
I noticed that some english-spoken websites use the term dark triple for Gulden Draak, but i don't think this term is used in Belgium...

Well, Gulden Draak is marketed in the US as a tripel. I'll grant you that it is different from any other tripel I've ever experienced.

If GD is not actually a tripel then Tripel Karmeliet is my numero uno.

I like a good strong ale that I can drink straight from the bottle, preferably while using power tools.:D

More like 15 Lucky Lagers for $5

Bravo! Standing Ovation. Great song choice.:D

+1 great song! I think I remember that song one drunken night in a bar in east Texas in the 1970's. You may have heard about it in that movie Urban Cowboy. "Dontchoo ride that bull sissy.";)

Oh yeah, Stella for the evening...

My wife and I split one of these at The Backabbey in Claremont, CA on Saturday. OMG, that was one of the best I have ever had.

I've had this beer before but it was just outstanding on this night. 11% ABV, oh yeah.

I have fallen in love with Belgium. All I need is a moderately unsuccessful football team to identify with and a crash course in Flemish and I'll be off.
Beer....chocolate....chips.....bikes....what's not to like?
