I had a bottle of the Grand Reserve while on vacation in Halifax. Other than telling the waitress at what temperature to serve the beer (and they called themselves a Belgian pub!), it was a very nice drop. Immediately after finishing the Chimay, I went on the Alexander Keith's brewery tour. I was well and truly sloshed and my wife, who has no depth perception and should not drive at night, then had to drive through torrential rain at night for three hours to get to our next destination. I am glad I didn't have to do that drive!

Just finished off a carton of Heineken. Glad I never paid for it.

What do people think of Amstel Gold? I have had it once or twice in Italy and it is a lot better then Heineken.

Maui Brewing IPA for the last week. Also Deschutes Mirror Pond in the fridge and my local is finishing off the Sierra Nevada Celebration on tap, so I'll be back to Anchor Steam there soon.

I have tried to like Amstel. Can't do it. Of course if someone is giving it (or any other beer for that matter) to me, I am always a gracious recipient.:D

Then Pearl in a can should be on your list.

I also have fond memories of Rolling Rock

For some reason Rolling Rock (not in excess) gives me a hangover.

Same with Bud, although I like Busch, and Michelob.

Bitte, sprechen zie Deutsch?

This really is about beer. When I checked in on the beer thread this morning I was a bit disappointed to read the praises of American Yellow Factory Beers and Euro Swills. I also remembered something that happened few years ago. A German speaking man was about to leave my brewpub when he came over and told me he was glad my beers aren't served freezing cold. Then he said, "In Germany we have a saying." He said the "saying" in German and said, "It means you can drink horse *iss if its cold enough." There have been numerous occasions when I would have liked to repeat this to various people but couldn't, because i didn't remember what he said. So, the question is / are,

Is there really such an expression, and if so what would in be in German?

Danke schon (umlaut missing) in advance.

That's a good line, I'll have to use that.

After all the great beers listed here, there's always going to have to be some bum that thinks the factory beers are even worth mentioning. I feel bad for people that don't know anything other than that peewater, and there's always the hipster doofus that thinks this is somehow cool.

One thousand dollars for this bike, or you could torture yourself with a 12 pack of PBR swill and stick the labels on your dumb fixie with no brakes for $8.99

Could you tell a wise man,
By the way he speaks or spells?
Is this more important,
Than the stories that he tells?
And call a man a fool,
If for wealth he doesn't strive?

Ha Ha, Here comes Mr. Mexico. You Southerners have to put limes in your beers (Corona, Dos Equis) to neutralize that pee flavor.;)

I drink the "good" beers too.:p

I eat good but have the occasional Big Mac, hot dog/mystery meat.

I also appreciate anyone who's out riding and is courteous. Even those on the proverbial "POS." I figure they're enjoying the day the same way I am.

Krebs, thanks for keeping things in perspective here.

It's all good, well most of it anyway.

Damn I actually am a bum. Never had Natural Ice though.

One final note, lighten up Francis!

P.S. Is Guinness acceptable to the beer Police?

l will never understand the popularity of Corona.
Bohemia isn't to bad.
But except for Noche Buena I stay away from Mexican Beer.
We do have world class wines grown about 35 miles south of me in the Guadalupe Valley. But back to beer.
A 12 pack a day is just too much dinero for good beer. And weekends I worked as a bouncer in a country western bar with Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap.
My next time in the states I am going to go to The Back Abbey that Scott So Cal was mentioning. I do like good beer. But some days it just comes down to whats on sale
And brewerjeff I have brewed my own beer and was thrilled with the results.
And have been toying with the idea of doing it again but nobody down here can tell me if it's legal here in Mexico.

Yeah we're back to normal here. I don't know which is worse, the fashion police that are offended by wearing of certain jerseys, or beer drinkers poking fun at each other.

In all seriousness, I was at a liquor store the other day and dude in behind me was holding on to a case of Coors Light, I had a sixer of Bell's Two Hearted Ale. I rung up at 9 dollars something cents, and the Coors guy commented about how much of a rip off micro brews are. I told him "you can drink that whole case of swill and not even come close to the satisfaction that one of these would give you, and you'll be running to the bathroom twice as much, at least you'll have a decent buzz going so you'll forget about how awful your beer tastes".

Now, I am crapping you negative, this guy actually brought the case of Coors back to the cooler, and came back with a 12 pack of Summit (local micro brew). I started applauding, and so did one of the cashiers. My good deed for the day. :D
