What happened to Tom Leaper's career (Aussie pro, '99 to '02)?

He rode the Giro in 2000 and 2001 for Panaria-Gaerne when he was 24 and 25, then achieved some results in the U.S. for Navigators the following year, and that was it. He was 26. He seemed to quit pro and went home after that.

Does anyone know why? Homesick? Didn't want to dope?
I think he may have also rode The Worlds, but I'm not sure.

At the age of 38, he is apparently still smashing plenty of club and "open" riders.
