I thought that was gone too, but it seems that the little orange square with one purple corner (no, I can't work out what it is meant to be either) serves that function. However, bold type for all thread titles makes it less visible.

uhm... isn't that the "go to the first unread post" button? If so, we're not talking about the same thing :p

Just noticed that since all threads and posts have new url, all links from before the update are now 404. Major impact in the Race Design Thread.

Quotes also don't link to the post they quote.

I've PMed Libertine about this.

That is "go to last unread post in thread" button - bit small, will move it and put words on it

You can do me a favour - can you put :

OLD URL >> NEW URL
OLD URL >> NEW URL
OLD URL >> NEW URL

PM or post in here - then I can get the redirects setup - didn't have time yesterday to do it.

Totally agree. 'Today' and 'yesterday' were way better :)

I also really hope I can view 10 posts per page again.

Hi Sam

That only gets you to the latest single post. Before you got a list of all new threads posted in (those not read were darkish)
regardless of their topic.. Is it possible to enable that function again?

We seem to have lost some useful features:
indication by the contributor's name of whether they are currently on-line (yes: I do see the list at the bottom of the page)
Web link button on edit screen
direct link to most recent post in a thread (I thought that the excellent link to the first message since last visit in each thread had gone: I'm very relieved that it is still there, just cunningly disguised)
link to the cited post: these are often from much earlier in the thread, and needs to be read in its own context to understand it (problem somewhat, but not totally, mitigated by multiple depths of quote now facilitated)

New oddities:
If size of print is considered an indication of priority, the most important information about a message is apparently believed to be the number of times it has been edited, and the message that is being cited and responded to is the least important. The outsize edit notifications have been removed, but quoted text still uncomfortably small. Later edit: outsize edit notification is back again, at least on Archibald's 03:15 edit of his 02:51 message (GMT)

All messages in my sent messages folder were apparently sent to someone anonymous.

Do we really want to encourage centred and right aligned messages by having that as an easily accessed option on the edit screen?

Thankfully:
I think we now have accents and diacritics back
US date format not forced upon us

Missed opportunity:
Same limited size of message box
No thumb up/thumb down review of posts (or some analogous indication)
Still no csv tables

Overall effect
I understand that some change might eventually have been necessary, and it may have technical advantages that are invisible to the user, but what advantages do the developers see in this over the previous forum as a user experience?

Thanks for the feedback.

Regarding the points in bold, phpBB is a lot easier to make changes to than vBulletin. It's also got a pretty good modification system and library of existing mods people have made, meaning we can add/remove features dependent on user needs, which is pretty cool.

It's also way more secure, we want to keep your data as secure as possible and the previous software just wasn't as good as this in that respect.

vBulletin also lacked many of the standard features which this software has.

Thanks,

Chris

Will we be getting multi-quote back?

Also, I see you can use an emoticon by typing the actual characters ( :) ), but there's no way to just click on the one you want to use like before so you actually have to know the characters for each of them.

It is old. I remember noticing when you created it. I also hinted at that in - I think - the login problems thread.

I don't remember creating it, but I guess I did...

Anyway, when I sent an email regarding not being able to login, the email I received from cyclingnews had this user name in it, and gave instructions to change my password...guess I get to start over again?...

PM me the username of the account you actually want to use and I'll see what we can do to help. As long as it is your account, I mean.

Please could you explain what you mean by multi-quote?

I have this noted down as something missing from old forum also. Let me go and hunt around and see if this is a setting we can easily enable, otherwise it'll be a job for one of our front end devs to have a look at. :]

in the old forum there was a "multi-quote" button which allowed you to select all the posts you wanted to quote (independently, not nested) in your reply.

Exactly. So for example, you could be reading through a race thread after the fact and see several things to which you wanted to respond. Each post would have a muti-quote button. You could click it and it would change color to show it was "saved". So you might do that for a few different posts. When you were done reading and ready to reply, you clicked the main post reply button at the bottom and a quote of each individual message you wanted to respond to would populate your message. Then you could respond to each and it would be one post instead of you having to go through and make several different posts one at a time. It was extremely useful as you didn't have to stop reading and respond to each message as you went.

I also agree that the automatic quote of a quote of a quote thing(see this post) is going to be a clusterf. I can see individual posts being crazy long as each post is a response to a response to a response, etc... Sorry if you already mentioned something about this above but I didn't notice it.

I'd like to do that, but there are two problems:

There's no link to a post (previously each post had a number [OP was #1, first reply #2 and so on], which if you clicked on that you saw the one post in isolation with a new url, so it was easy to link to), so it's not easy to find the new url.

There are more than 1.000 of such links to other posts in that thread, so do you want us to give you the link to every single one of them or just a couple?

Cheers :)

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying. We'll have a look to see if this is something we can implement ourselves, as phpBB doesn't have the feature as standard.

I am logged in with a 7 letter password of lower case letters only.

Did you do anything in particular to achieve this?
