Uberfuelled Armstrong would have probably beaten him, as well as maybe Pantani, but not sure about any of them honestly.

The main issue is that this belongs in the clinic - anything we say can potentially be banned for. But I will say this: Froome does not have the panache yet that these other guys do. He rides for 20 minutes of intense effort and thats about it. Once he shows himself capable of doing an insane attack from far out, he will be a different class of rider. But I think with his TT ability he could beat Pantani (depending on the course) even if Pantani crushed him in the mountains.

LA - better climber, better TT'er
AC - about equal climber, better tactician/more guts
IB - better tactician
Pantani - better climber, worse TT'er

What guts? Put him in difficulty to rate guts.

Using these past two years as a reference or baseline, the Tour is won with the help of a super domestique who will dominate the following year. First Froome, now Porte. So the first name in the title should be changed to Porte :D

Or better yet, which TEAM?

His level is 'unbelievable', yet throw unpredictability in the 3-week race and he'll have no chance whatsoever regardless of his 'form'.

Froome is a rookie, he'll have the same fate as 2012 La Vuelta. Contador and Valverde are the smartest riders out there, and they'll come back for a 3rd week masacre.

Laughable as always. Keep them coming ;)

The only performance Froome would have matched would be Contador 2011. All the earlier ones would have put minutes into Froome.

Doping in the 2000s was just so much more blatant than today (forgive me mods) Froome cant get away with winning everything he touches (he's close though)

Thank you for restating your opinion which belongs in the clinic in this thread again. I would say that opinion has no place here, posters/readers either know that already or need to be convinced, and this isn't the forum for convincing people of cycling's doping past. .

Oh excuse me, I was making a point. But either way, doping or no doping aside, I made a different point that Froome would be beaten by the other guys most likely because he attacks, but he attacks by making sure he is well within his limits and doesn't do anything without hearing from the DS first. Pantani for example rode much differently, a style which I think would have seen Froome blown away.

You're excused.

The better question may have been, all things being equal who would win? Which in my opinion would see Froome out do Pantani also, but noone else.

No you don't think so. You are just not able to control your emotions like most people who voted for point 6. Some of you guys obviously need even harsher lesson from Christopher in the 2014 Tour.

What do you then think about those who voted for the 7th option? Mad?

RoboBasso >>> Froome

RoboBasso and Lance 2002 would make for a tight race. Pantani's suicidal attack wouldn't have worked in '98 if the cold and the rain didn't crush Ullrich, and there were no such similar circumstances in this years Tour, so Froome would have beaten Pantani '98, and as for the rest, Froome would have beaten them.

Edit: You could also add Indurain '94 to Basso and Armstrong.

Yes, RoboBasso >>> Froome is laughable given Basso was opposed by 85 kg climber Gutierrez and oldie Simoni.

It was tiresome year ago too and it will be year after. :p Seriously if I were you and wanted to save my psychological health, I'd retrain to support Froome.
