Whatever happened to...?

Whatever happened to Edward Theuns.

2015, racing at PCT level, at age 24 suddenly got >1000 CQ points and in the top 30 riders in the world, at age 24 and with little before it.

Since then, he has managed to remain in WorldTeams, but with scant results and little visibility in leadouts.
Maybe he is a good, solid team rider, but surely 2015 promised more. Flukey set of results that year, inflated points system, or just a sudden bloom and a long echo?

Don't remember the 2020 Tour where he, Stuyven and Mads P all got their chances to sprint on alternate days in the Tour.

Those were a frustrating couple of weeks.

The not yet answered question, surely someone must know.

On the rare occasions I watch cycling with my son, now an adult, he still recalls spotting Dirks placard.
Photo linked from a 2013 thread here about the phenomenon: Should I put it in the Lookalikes thread as a match for former GCN stats guy Cillian Kelly?

Just an extremely favourable calendar when riding for Topsport, coupled with excellent positioning skills to always be there at the end of all those .1 races. It's telling that during 2015 he still only won three times. He's had years in the WT where his level has been roughly the same, and even with some good results in actual big races. Just a different program and team role, mostly. But you can look at his results when Trek has put him in smaller Belgian and French races, even as recently as 2022 and 2023. Then imagine a full season of only those kinds of races.

Tom Van Asbroeck had more or less exactly the same season for Topsport the year before Theuns' big year. Very comparable case.
