Who makes these rims?

I agree. Boyd, and the rest, look like the same rims......and they all look like the same stuff Deng Fu, LT, and Yishun offer.

Are these all Gigantex rims? Who is the best source for them? Would love some Enves but they are out of my price range.

The majority of the rims for most these mail order wheel companies are coming from Mega Composite Ltd. in Taiwan. Good quality stuff, but everybody and their mothers are building with these same components. I dare the next fly-by-night wheel Co to do something different rather than use all the same parts that the 200 others are using.

Have you seen these guys?

Interesting but it appears they are having some sourcing issues

No, this is the first I've seen of these guys. I don't know that it's sourcing issues, looks like they're brand new and have their own designs at least. Just to give you an idea of cost and time frame for delivery it's about $6k per mold and about 3-5 months to receive the product.

Perhaps sourcing is not the right word. They are having problems finding a manufacture that meets their expectations. Here is the story.

On another note who do you think makes this rim? I know HTC made a big deal of making "Prototype" frames, wheels, etc. Most of the time they were just rebadged stuff. Haven't seen these on the market though

HTC wheels have been run with out branding for a couple of years (well, often branded "Highroad") Not just Zipp but also HED, My guess:
1) they don't want a wheel sponsor so they have freedom of choice; or
2) There could be a clash with either an existing sponsor or terms of agreement; or
3) They haven't been able to reach terms with the companies in question, so they take the stickers off to spite

I don't think I'm to crazy about these from Interbike. Maybe I'm not paying attention. Is this common in Carbon wheels. It looks scary:eek:

All it is is adding more junk to the endless piles of junk already out there. Note to shop wrenches, be prepared to work on tons of 3T wheels next season.

Ahh, Of course.

Wasn't Cav also using a set for some flat, sprint, stages? Wonder why they would have them without branding?

Cav liked the Zipp 808's in past. This year I believe he was riding the Mavic M80 which were not yet on the market.
Dave Zabriskie did use a set of 1080's on a stage I think last year.

They look scary bad.

... and probably a pain in the @ss to work on! Nice to see 3T trying to make somewhat of a comeback, but they're getting into wheels for all the wrong reasons, time will tell how good they are, my bet is junk with a cap/bold J. Should have stuck to what they know, bars and stems.

and seat posts, per the "classic" 3T
Their forks are not too bad, either, but that seems to answer a question that was never asked...

Talked to the engineer about these. Just the 'true at the hub' CaneCreek system puts me off. Lots of extra engineering and layup to be able to get the spoke to safely sit into the rim. Another answer to a not asked question but new wheel makers are everywhere, dripping at Interbike...all Asian, all the same with big decals. Any wheel maker that enters the market now should talk to those failed carbon frame makers that tried to enter the market a couple of years ago. Market is saturated...why hand builts with good hubs and (gasp) aluminum rims are doing so well. I think the only people doing well are the graphic designers for logos and the decal makers.

2000 Campy Record hubs Sapim Race Spokes, Ambrosio Nemesis rims.... Wonderlust! :)

Does Ambrosio make an equally as attractive clincher rim? And if so, where might be a good place for tracking a pair down?

The clincher version is called Excellence, I have lots of these in 32 and 36 hole in black. H Plus Son also makes a direct copy of the Nemesis in clincher form called the TB 14, I will have stock of these sometime soon.

Ok guys I know what you think about Mc Donalds wheels but what you think about Novatec 60mm tubs W960. http://www.novatecwheels.com/novatec/english/p_show.php?sid=377
I might have a chance to buy some 2nd hand wheels. They are probably from same shop as Hed, but I am asking, my budget is maybe 500 euros top for medium used set.
Thanks!

Anyone wondering what a complete pile of sh!t wheel set looks like just click on that link. If you get that and your bearings don't blow out in the first two seasons I'll be pleasantly surprised. Novatec and Formula use the crappiest bearings a mfg can stuff in a hub.

HA!! I say let them keep building that garbage, they've indirectly given me more business than I could have imagined in the last few years.

Oooh, I forgot about those. Do they also have the large Ambrosia logo on them?
How wide a tire can you put on the clinchers? I ask because I often ride dirt roads and would like to put 28 on them but even some 32 cross tires if possible

What do you think the best hub for a big guy (190) Campy or DT 240's? I ride a lot (10K miles a year) with a lot of climbing so I can be harsh on wheels.

Ok. I want some wheels for my Mondonico. Weight don't care. figure my weight between 250-265lbs. I am running Ultegra triple. I am thinking of switching to Campy in the future.

No the Excellence rims I have are pretty much blank except for the brass counter weight and a small Ambrosio lot decal over the seam. Last Ambrosio order I placed I requested they ship without decals because the Excellence decal that they use is fugly as sin. The only rims that they do that large laser etching with are the tubulars, Nemesis and Crono F20.

The widest tire I've mounted on the Excellence is 34c, I wouldn't go beyond that. Usually I don't go beyond 32c for gravel roads, 34c is kinda overkill.

Lotta good hubs out there, Campy, Miche, CK, DT, Alchemy, list goes on. I've been using Edco Super G for the last decade with no issues.

pretty much what I have. I had bought a pair of Spinergy Spox wheels at SuperGo and didn't break any spokes but the freewheel disintegrated in under 1000 miles. I took them to my LBS where I bought my bike but it couldn't be repaired. The LBS tried to go through Spinergy but was having no luck. So he built these wheels up and gave them to me. Yeah he replaced a set of wheels purchased elsewhere for me for free. Needless to say I am now a very loyal customer.

So are these Wheelsmith spokes?

I broke a rear spoke within 1500 miles.
