did a few laps around Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Was cold in the morning for an Angeleno - but the sun was out and there were views to the ocean. Amazing!

Turned out to be a nice day in the low 60s for a steel bike ride at a very low pace with coffee and a couple of lemon/blueberry muffins at the end.

I can head for the hills tomorrow or take a long ride and go into another state (New South Wales, which is only 47km away).

i have done como for more years than i will let on. you either stay in front or back, a lot of 'crash 4's' out there sometimes. you ever do foodpark?

Not in several years.

It was funny this year to see Flandis chewing out the 'crash 4's'.

So what is a crash 4 - not a term in this area.

Cat 4 = Crash 4

Huge group rides at a very high pace with all different levels of cyclists often equals a crashfest... and someone has to get the blame, therefore crash 4.

Bunch rides vs. crits

Perhaps I'm just simultaneously old and soft, and naive, but if I, or the riders round me, were taking stupid risks to hang on to a bunch ride, I'd drop off and make my own way home at my own pace. It's not worth the road rash just to try to hang on to Floyd Landis's wheel for 30 more seconds (and I expect that even in his present condition, that's all I'd last if the hammer went down).

However, for crit racing I can definitely see where "crash 4" comes from. After having just graduated from what I assume is the equivalent of cat 4 to cat 3 (D grade to C grade) I no longer have to worry nearly as much about idjits clipping my front wheel through the tight corners as they desperately try to hang on to the bunch.

Kinda lump the crash 4's and 5's together.;)
the phrase predates cat 5 to be honest. it really needs to be crash 5's but
tradition you know. we all get in touch with our inner "Fred" at some point.
just to remember when you did not know jack or sh-it. :D

Up at 4am tomorrow, ride 86km. Ride to school which is 11km, do a couple of tests, and turn around and ride home, which is another 11km. Should result in 108km. Go ride hills on Thursday and drop everybody again, hammer fest on Friday and Saturday, and race on Sunday and get a win.

Good on ya. Tear them up. Best of luck and report back the results.

Hmmm. Long rides, hammerfests, races. Do you have any recovery days in that schedule? :)

Hammerfests are wasted on the young... :p

I'll ride 50k Thanksgiving (Thursday) morning, and another 50k Friday morning.

I will NOT venture into ANY stores or ANY Black Friday sales. If an e-tailer or retailer cannot survive without Christmas shoppers, then perhaps they should rethink their sales scheme.

Exactly my plan as well - 30 miles with a Holiday group ride on Thursday, then perhaps 60 miles plus on Friday.

Can someone please let me know what a "Fred" is?
These are my guesses:
1) A poser.
2) Nerd.
3) A Bobo with all the latest and greatest gear, yet trundles along.

I have had so many business and family surprises lately and with the sun down I just don't know if I can even plan a ride anymore.

worst part about stopping riding is learning how hard it is to get back to the level your were at and it is almost a deterrent to not stop or never ride again. took me all summer to feel good again then a week off here and there and the legs sucks again

bought 2 lights for some evening 20 milers to keep the legs and heart level till hammer Sundays

Tomorrow as in Turkey Day? we are hosting so I doubt I can hit it at all wiith out an earful from wifey who would have to cook with my mom. so prettymuch the ride is out I guess

Will spin those nights on the bike path around the back bay or a well lit circuit we have scouted
