I'm tossing up whether to race or to do a long ride tomorrow. I was in a group today and for out sprint, I led the bunch out at 58km/h (FTR I was holding speeds at more then 50km/h plus for more then 500m) for the traditional sprint halfway through the ride. My housemate won the sprint, so he ended up buying me a coffee as a thanks. Then to show what a top bloke I am, I soft pedaled all the way back to help get the stragglers back onto the bunch.

I'm riding through the Brisbane floods for the next few days. I can't go to work as the CBD is under water. I just need to stay on the high ground and check out the sights, help if I can. I did it yesterday and I think a few people stuck in traffic jams were envious when I peddled past.

I got through the Brisbane floods by riding out to Redcliffe each morning when the power was off at work. Apart from a stretch of main road at Pine Rivers it was clear riding the whole way. I got a few envious glances as well :)

Tomorrow I'm doing Mt Coot-tha, then on to Milton Road and Gap Creek Road and then up Mt Nebo to Jolly's Lookout. Time to get the climbing legs on!

Due to this:

High 34F/1C. Winds NW at 15 to 25 mph/40kph. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph/60kph early,

I'll be on my indoor trainer while watching this...again!

Tomorrow will be partly cloudy and warm in Wellington, NZ. It seems fitting that I subject myself to intolerable cruelty, and thus will perform mutilple ascents on the singlespeed mtb of the notorious Summit Rd.
There is a silly little race in a few weeks called the Karapoti Classic which rewards people who are good carriers of the bicycle. The Summit Rd is perfect for honing these skills as it is mostly too steep to ride.

Gotta get the miles somehow. With a biggish group(half dozen) the cars can easily see you and it's fairly safe. The biggest hazard these days is the snow that melts during the day leaves a nice sheet of ice on the sides of the road. Just have to keep your head up.

My Triathlon club came up with a great bad weather workout.
We would ride in the after hours in a parking structure.
Sears%20Parking%20Structure.jpg

Makes for some great interval training, running or riding.
Works in good weather too.
Do not drive into the structure with you bike on the roof rack:eek:

Done my first race this season, it is a kind of un official club race on near by hill Sljeme (same one where World Skii cup race is).
Elevation gane 650m, (1035m), distance 10km, avg. speed 15km, time 36 min. Record is 24 minutes. Descent, worst in life freeze to death, never do it again.

Not sure about tomorrow, but this evening I biked up Bluff Hill, Bluff NZ. Was doing fine until I decided I could sit down coming round a steep bit near the top. The front wheel lifted and hopped a foot to the left. Thought I was going down so unclipped and stopped.
242mtr altitude gained in 2.96km. Avg gradient seems to be at least 12%, least was about 9%, max I saw was 19%. Avg speed for me was 10.3km/h. 13mins 41sec with about 100mtrs of walking from where I unclipped til I could get back rolling.

the local kids here on their fixies poach the multi parking structures at night and race to the bottom. the slick pavement provides a "slick track" experience and they lock em up cornering easy. It is insane

I should have posted this yesterday ;)
Today rode from Queenstown NZ to Wanaka NZ and return over the Crown Range. 2000mtrs of ascending. 140km ride/race. I never tried to race it, just wanted to get an awesome ride in. The record time is about 3hr40m or something like it. I was ok with just under 6hrs. Haven't been doing much hill work of late (1 ride this week was probably the last hills for a month or more) but was happy to spin my way up and over.

The weather wasn't bad. A few sprinkles around Cardrona was all. Bit of a headwind on the way back up the valley and into Queenstown. I only took a crappy cellphone pic at the top of Crown Range looking towards Queenstown.

Done 3hrs tempo intervals on some really boring course, but at least it is near my place and i can concentrate my self cos it is pancake flat windy place. This time of year it can be a good place to train , but riding in summer is danger, cos fools let cars inside this recreational centre:mad:

This place beside seacoast (and you know by daytime when and in what direction wind blows) is really strange.

I had today off, but yesterday I trained with some top female triathletes, one of them was Emma Moffatt, and despite her size, she can really put people in the hurt locker, especially when can get low on the bars when riding into a brutal head wind, compared to me who is 6ft 2''.

We had Sprint distance Team Duathlon today, pretty interesting competition, you are strong as your weakest mate, me.
Here is some really short vid. and couple of pictures, i am in Cervelo team kit:D looking cool and trying to stay on wheel. Same windy course as above.
Later we had some really cool BBQ with healthy food.

Did very nice first 100km+ ride this year, and feeling not so tired:D for this time of year. Went with two club mates who s preparing for IM in July. Swiss and Italian guys living in Croatia, so there was lost in translation part:D but anyway great ride.

Strong south-west wind, hilly course, long 16km climb, 114km for 4,50h, average 25km/h. Nice steady tempo all the way, lot of bars, sandwiches, water and pasta for lunch after. I must find another shoes, that Sidi killing me.
Here is Google map picture (blue track), forgot to take camera.
