1994 Clusez- Avoriaz is certainly up there. Does anyone find a profile of it?

Is that the TT that Ugrmov won? I seem to remember it had 3 climbs, the first being a 3rd category, the next being a 2nd category and the final one being a first category. It just got harder and harder as the stage went on and is the hardest TT I think I've seen.

Wiggo, but he was 4th first time he gave a Grand Tour a real shot. Tony have tried and failed miserably. In Tony's case I think he just doesn't have the body to be a GC contender, too heavy. Just like EBH never will be a GC contender, even is some have suggested he should try, also too heavy.

We are going way off course here, but Porter and Millar were today saying today ebh is not too far off from TDf contention

Thats the one. Big Mig lost 3 minutes that day.

Yes, it was.

Copenhagen 2011 - Tony Martin 51,81 km/h
Mendrisio 2009 - Fabian Cancellara 51,58 km/h
Catania 1994 - Chris Boardman 50,83 km/h
Plouay 2000 - Serhiy Honchar 50,67 km/h
Salzburg 2006 - Fabian Cancellara 50,66 km/h
Varese 2008 - Bert Grabsch 50,41 km/h
Hasselt-Zolder 2002 - Santiago Botero 50,36 km/h
Lugano 1996 - Alex Zülle 50,26 km/h
Treviso 1999 - Jan Ullrich 50,21 km/h
Madrid 2005 - Michael Rogers 49,94 km/h
San Sebastián 1997 - Laurent Jalabert 49,14 km/h
Verona 2004 - Michael Rogers 48,78 km/h
Stuttgart 2007 - Fabian Cancellara 48,38 km/h
Valkenburg 1998 - Abraham Olano 47,86 km/h
Hamilton 2003 - Michael Rogers 47,37 km/h
Valkenburg 2012 - Tony Martin 47,27 km/h
Geelong 2010 - Fabian Cancellara 47,05 km/h
Paipa-Tunja 1995 - Miguel Indurain 46,48 km/h
Lisboa 2001 - Jan Ullrich 44,80 km/h

When it comes to championship ITT's, the Olympics of 2008 was probably the hardest of the last 10 years, a little over 45 km/h average.

Mendrisio was a much tougher course, but the average speed's much higher than it was this year. 2009 Canc must've obliterated Martin this year.
Average speeds don't say that much about the course but more about depth of the competition.

The problem with your logic is that the 2009 Tony Martin averaged 49.46 km/h on the Mendrisio course. Are you suggesting that the 2009 Tony Martin was so much better than the 2012 Tony Martin that he could average 2 km/h faster on a harder course?

This isn't taking any wind into affect however.

That 2009 Giro was a big one.

If you're looking for margin of victory, the 1992 Tour Stage 9 - 65km ITT in Luxembourg had Indurain crushing everyone by over 3 minutes. He beat LeMond by 4:14, and Zulla by nearly 5:00. Ciapucci lost over 7 minutes on that day alone.

Also, in 1994, from Périgueux - Bergerac was 64 km, in sweltering 40 degree heat. Mig beat Rominger by 2 minutes. And everyone else was over 4 minutes back. Chris Boardman lost 5:27. Riis 5:33, Olano 5:45. Some big names who were absolutely demolished by Big Mig.

Unreal figures there Alpe. Close to six minutes to the Likes of Boardman and Olano (TT world champion in Valkenburg 1998) on a pancake flat course is truly extraterrestial.

After all this years i still recall the slaughter in Luxembourg and Bergerac as one of these once in a lifetime experience.

1- 2003 ITT. The one where Ullrich put Armstrong against the ropes. It was very hot and with quite a bit of ondulations.
2- 2009 Giro ITT was epic.
3- Any of those where Indurain killed everybody. 1986 that was 75 km and Hinault caught Kelly who was a good TT at the time.

Found another real hard one...

GP des Nations 1994, Lac de Madine, 84,5 km

1 Tony Rominger 1:47:41
2 Francis Moreau 3:48
3 Thierry Marie 4:13

It the 80ies they had to ride 90 kms in the hilly area around Cannes. Took them around 2 hours. Maître Jacques dominated this race on a 140 km course. Doesn't have to be this long, but a tt around 70-80 km on a circuit around Cannes would be so great.
