Do roglic fans even want roglic to win? At this point he's a tragic hero, a martyr, a symbol of the unfulfilled potential and downtrodden ubermensch in all of us. Let's face it, most cyclists suck at all other sports (those that reward strength, speed, coordination) and this is kind of the last chance saloon for nerds with napoleon complexes. If Roglic were to actually win then he'd be just another winner and this sport already has plenty of those.

Nice post. Basically you state that Roglic has become a legend and that winning the Tour will end that very same legend. Which is, somewhat, paradoxically true: Roglic is one the three most popular riders in the forum along with Rico Poel and Pogi mostly due to his multifarious dramatic rise and falls.

Winning the Tour would be wholesome, a fairy tale ending for an anti-hero.

To me Roglic is looking like Contador in 2017 (just have this feeling, sorry guys. Agree to disagree never forget). His season has been very underwhelming, specially Paris Nice and I don't buy when some people say he is preparing a superpeak for the Tour. His base level always was insane and there isn't a single reason to think why he can't fight for the win unless assuming he is fading and age is catching him. I changed my mind when he did a fantastic TT and won 2 consecutive stages but his last stage was very and very worrisome.

What I really want is for Roglič is to matter at last in the Tour, i.e. 4 years later. It seems like a seriously overlong drought in the world's biggest stage race. I mean this 4 year gap is what's mostly responsible for his quasi anonymity when it comes to featuring in most 'casual' predictions/conversations about the Tour.

The truth is for the average casual cycling fan who only follows the Tour, Rog barely even exists. It's all about Pog, Vinge & even Van Aert.

So if I had a checklist of stuff I want next month, it would be:

- no crashes
- no bad luck
- a classic stomp stage win with hands on the drops
- maybe a second stage win as well somewhere

The result will be what it'll be. But first things first, Rog needs to play an actual role in the race & get the positive headlines he deserves.

Personally i feel that Rogla can be rather relaxed and humble about it, it will be fine. He is now again exactly where he wants to be, strong team behind him, good materials, his form peaking for the Tour, motivated and hungry for results, experienced. Rogla can now really focus on stage racing and that is on what he does the best.

As for worrying about some other thing, like redefining rules of human physiology in regards to health or some hard established cycling rules in general. Luckily he doesn't have to worry about those thing at this years Tour edition, that is on others and good luck to them.

Agree with all this. The same can be said for MvDP. It was kind of wild how he was just “Jasper’s lead out man” and sidekick in the Netflix special. Basically no mention of the fact that he is one of the best 5 cyclists in the world (and Jasper is not).

I want the best rider to win.
Missing the "best rider" option in the poll, I approximated it with highest apriori bayesian probability of Tadej Pogačar.

Someone who is not Roglic/Evenepoel/UAE rider or Visma rider. I think from the poll, only Simon Yates and the Vino option qualify.

Ideally Carapaz but I would be happy with almost anyone who fits the criteria above.
