Who is next to dominate GT's?

Considering GT's cycling has pretty much dynasties you can say. Merckx, hinault, indurain, (go the clinic) and now Contador.

Who do you think will dominate GT's after Contador? Let's say 5 more years Contador and then what?

Pinot? Quintana? Or some rather unknown guy? Contador also boomed in '07 although granted he was already pretty good (winning mountain stages) at '06 but in '07 it all really started.

Maybe we haven't seen him yet or maybe there isn't going to be a next guy like previously?

What's your take on it?

No poll this time, it just sucks, I know.

Btw does Vino have a son or a daughter?

If so...the answer is clear

I wish he could be Thomas De Gendt, but that is just my wish.;)

Too old I would say and not enough climber. He's already 26/27 I think. Next 5 years are still Contador's to take. And he still gives me this lazy feeling.

He doesn't seem to care enough.

You need to have that heart!!!! that desire to win whatever it takes.

But he's the next solo man, no doubt. Actually de gendt might be the new vino? ;)

Can I say Froome

De Gendt does not have the mentality to really make it. He does not focus enough on the professional aspects of the sport and therefore he is always going to be at a disadvantage compared to his rivals. The way the sport is moving at the moment factors such as these will make more and more of a difference. Just ask Francesco Moser.

How would you know? He's been getting good results ever since joining a WT team, I'm sure there's little wrong with his training. Obviously his training program will change now that he came third in the Giro, he will focus more on climbing. But before this year he didn't know how much potential he had, nor did we for that matter.

His real problem is the fact that he can't ride in a peloton because he's afraid of crashing.

Certainly not a given that. Still need to see whether Contador can take on Froome and then also see whether he is up to his very best after his ban as we never got to see that properly in the Vuelta. Schleck and Froome are certainly not far off him if not his equal when it comes to climbing so another rider coming to challenge whilst still at his peak is not unimaginable.

Have read interviews with him stating that..
His riding in peloton problem can be fixed over time imo.

Il'd like it to be Froome or another Brit but i can Tejay van Garderen causing some serious damage in future GTs , hes young and seems to have the right skills , was very impressive in last years Tour.

No, we need to see if Froome can take on Contador. Not the other way around.

True..
But we are not totally sure that Contador can take on Froome are we?

Interviews that have been wrongly translated I assume. Like the "he doesn't do a warm up before a time trial" bull****. He does, just not on rollers. Journalists these days translate that to "He doesn't do a warm-up before a time trial."

English journalists are every bit as prone to making mistakes than any other kind. ;)

He's only 26 years old by the way.

He recently turned 26. He's not too old. That said, he will of course not beat Contador any time soon if Contador can remain as good as he is right now. No one will. Someone with good time trial- and climbing abilities will be the next to dominate GTs. Pinot seems to be a good all-rounder.

Van garderen good and he's still young but saying he's the next to dominate? Well i'm a non-believer but it's not completely unlikely.

De Gendt isn't enough of a climber. He had 1 great day in the giro. The other stages he always dropped when there were 5 guys left.

My thing with the De Gendt is that I just don't feel the desire to do everything to win. VDB has that desire to do everything for that sport, sadly enough he doesn't want to win

Contador, Evans and wiggins also sacrifice everything for example.

I don't see De Gendt do it. I hope he proves me wrong though. You gotta love it that he almost punished the GC guys in the giro for riding pathetic :D

There's a difference between not wanting to win and not being able to win. I'd place JVDB in the latter category. If you don't have a killer weapon it's a lot harder to win.

Contador: best climber and more than decent time trial.
Cancellara: time trial abilities and big engine for the classics.
Boonen: big engine for the classics and one of the fastest men after a hard and long race.
Mark Cavendish: fastest sprinter on flattish Tour stages.

VDB2 doesn't have any of those.

Just examples by the way.

In an English interview..

De Gendt in the same interview indeed compared himself to Wiggins as a diesel rider than a pure climber.

On the other hand he only decided to specialise and become a GT contender after his Giro podium so there is certainly a lot more to come from him.

If he races a GT which he'll never win while he has way more chance to win in another GT it makes me doubt his will to win ;) He orgasm while thinking of a podium

I think that only Contador has desire to dominate.
Others either don't have desire or ability. Care about individual result.

Where do you come.up with this ****? He was talking about being a gt guy way before his giro podium.

Talking about, but he never had fully decided which path he would take.
And this **** was made up by the man himself
The Giro was my main goal of the year but I never spoke about a podium. Now I know I'm a GC rider. In the past, I had different team managers and they all said different things. One said I could become a good classics rider. But the spring classics don't fit me: I'm not the best pilot in the bunch. Now, though, I know what to do: stage races. They will be my main focus in the upcoming years.

Well we really don't know if that is the case for the up and coming riders, have not seen enough of them.
