Poels 58th or something in Milano Torino today. Do not expect him to do well in Lombardy since he was already poor in European championships and today

With the fastest sprinter missing (Valverde), I'd say Dan Martin if it comes down to 4-8 riders sprinting for the win.

Can't see anyone of the above mentioned beating Martin in a flat sprint.

Urán is faster than Dan Martin. So's Rui Costa, should he be in that 4-8 riders group.
Uran is not very slow...but dan martin is much faster..he has won already Lombardia at the spring twice.

Anyway I cant see and sprint this year with this amazing hard route...maybe 2 or 3 riders, but likely just one.
Martin has won Lombardia in a sprint?

You're probably thinking of the Autumn Lombardia.

Could be hiding his form to avoid being marked

Is Astana sending Superman Lopez? His victory in Milan-Torino makes him a favorite by right

When Uran has won sprints is becouse he was very strong that race, Dan Martin is similar to Purito, Samu, ulissi, cunego, that kind of riders..bur at the end of this race is. Not just question of how fast your are. Contador could beat Valverde in a final spint if he is less tired. But is the descent and 500 m of flat, the winner should be decided in the climb, or evven before the climb

I'll go with Simon Yates. Was on great form in the Vuelta, and will still be relatively fresh thanks to his ban. Difficult to rule out GVA on current form though as well.

GVA was not selected at first but know replaces another rider, so I guess they know this is to heavy for him

...AND if somebody shoots Valverde down.
Even in this case, it'd be close.

Maybe Ulissi is faster, but not too much, Purito has a good sprint

Lol I like how Sagan came in last in a group of 11 with Nibali, Di Luca, Horner, Nocentini, Poels, Kreuziger, Scarponi, Hoogerland, Rodriguez and Gatto :D

Rodriguez is pretty fast in flat sprint with a group of 8-12 climbers, Ulissi is fast in a reduced group of 30-40 riders. That's a pretty significant difference. :D

Ulissi indeed is faster. Agree with Samu: Purito beated him most of the time in his career in a flat sprint. But they are both pretty fast. But what's not good for Sammy is that Andreas Klöden beated him once in a flat sprint.

ANDREAS KLÖDEN! ;)

There is a sharp right corner with about 250 meters to go so positioning and acceleration should be more important than outright speed

What I don't like is going full speed downhill, a tight corner to cross Porta S. Agostino, which is only 4m wide

Contador to crash and abandon (because my predictions are always wrong :D ).

But seriously I think Aru has a good chance to take this as his form seems to be slowly improving.

I agree with Eshnar 100% but here's something I don't understand: why is it that climbers such as Alberto can make hard, devastating attacks for 5-10 seconds, but can't sprint? Isn't an attack effectively a mini sprint?

Of course experts can chime in, but from my understanding, sprinting uses those "fast" twitch muscles. It's a HUGE quick burst that you then sustained for a bit. You're giving it your absolute all because the stage is over. You're emptying the tank. I think this is a little different then what AC is able to do (was able). AC has a good attack but then quickly settles into a rhythm which he sustains. He's never been able (from my memory) to explode into the speeds required for a sprint.
