I think Scarponi or Anton. I like both of these guys and was really disappointed last year the way Anton crashed out.

What about Moncutie for 4th successive KOM? I have my doubts this year.

You don't appreciate Purito time trial skills :) He improved in individual time trial this season, he's still poor in this, but he is also able to lost something about 2 minutes to Nibali or 1,5 minutes to Scarponi. The condition? In Salamanca - where time trial is localized - has to be a good weather. Purito rode fatally in Tour 2010 and Vuelta 2010 - 'cause there was bad weather.

My favorite? Scarponi. He's most comprehensive cyclist on start list (what a rhyme ;) ) .

Hm, you appreciate Purito's climbing abilities so high. I doubt hes able to go solo and bring time on long climbs but he'll need it so much even for top-3...
I vote for Nibali. Defensive riders have many advantages nowadays. :(

No clue, really. Could be Anton, more likely Nibali or someone else. Maybe Sastre. I'd like it to be Sastre.

I'd like it to be between Menchov and Purito, but I think it'll be between Menchov and the 2 italians. Voted Menchov anyway
Lol@ 7 votes for Wiggins

Races like the Vuelta have a penalty for defensive riders. It's called time bonuses.

As Hitch pointed out, just reading the thread is exciting, in that so many riders have a legitimate chance! This is gonna be good!

where did this nibali is a defensive rider myth came from?

last year he attacked plenty of times on the giro, the vuelta, the worlds and giro di lombardia and this year he did it again in M-SR and the giro where he tried but ofc nothing could have been done to break contador.

he attacks more times then most GC riders that we usually consider agressive

-Anton will win. Unless he decides to crash again like every other Euskaltel rider but Samu.
-Nibali will give him a run for his money, will podium.
-Scarponi might podium. Will definitely be in contention, but might struggle on Angliru big time with his monster gears.
-Menchov might podium, or even win. Depends on his consistency in the mountains, and he needs a good ITT.
-Purito will get some stage wins, might podium at best. He's far too weak in the ITT, and won't take the time he needs in the climbs.
-JVDB will top 10.
-Wiggo, Klödi & Sastre will get top 15.

I remember only one solid attack from him on Monte Grappa (I mean GT). Boring defensive cycling with hope to win time in ITT. My thought is winning GT made him even more сautious. ( Where he attacked on the Vuelta? Nibali prefers to use domestique like Kreuziger or Schmyd to give a feasible tempo that protects him from attacks of other contenders. I talk about final kms surely. Are you disagree?
Scarponi can climb Angliru using 53, i guess :D

i was anti-nibali watching last year. but after he had a mechanical in the itt, i just had to lol. he still beat purito. nibs is a favorite rider now. and i hope he makes the podium.

purito is another favorite climber. but the time trialing :(

i voted for anton. no crashing!

also watching with interest to see what peter sagan can do for himself and in support of nibali.

pulling for sastre to at least get a stage win and dedicate it to xavier tondo. :)

Anton for me. If he can repeat his form of last year and stay upright I have a hard time looking past him. An on form Menchov is his biggest threat.

He was racing against Mosquera, who can't descend, can't TT and can't ride in a péloton. Mosquera went ballistic on the attack on the way to Pal. PAL! He was happy to drag great climbers in his wheel, no track stands for him, no, just breaking people.

When your GC opponent is Mosquera, you always look defensive by proxy.

I am going with Anton. If he has the form like he did last year and during his Zoncolan win in the Giro he is the rider to beat IMO. But I would love to see Nibali take the win two years in a row as I am a big fan of him.

1. Anton
2. Nibali
3. Scarponi
