burgos? he crashed again there? don't remember. the vuelta in which he crashed was the best he ever was(2009?). the tour 2010 he also got dropped and lucky a few times that the peloton stopped. like in that final mountainstage. gesink looks and sounds in his 30s. he has only gotten less explosive since turning pro and he isn't improving for years now.

agreed he was better in 2009 vuelta, at that point he looked super good. But he was pretty good at the 10' tour also, and had to help menchov also. He looked to be in the form of his life heading into lombardy in 10' though... then his father died which pretty much screwed his 2011 up along with injuries.

No way he had ideal prep for vuelta, that is failure to understand how the human body works. His injury was they type of injury that can destroy careers. I have my doubts on gesink now though, with that acceleration he will struggle to ever make a difference in the mountains. He will probably struggle to reach the heights he had potential to reach at this point, but to ignore the difficult two years he has had (and again the broken femur is serious business, I can only assume you've never broken a bone, let alone one that is so important for a cyclist) is simply ignorant.

voted gesink to win the Giro for purely sentimental reasons. Wish the guy all the best now that he is focusing on something else than the TdF, hopefully he doesn't crash.

Basso, Nibali is his waterboy.

I didn't want to start a thread for a single question, but can anyone point me to where/when details of the 2013 Giro Bio course may be published. I'm going to be half way around the world for a wedding in Italy next year which I will follow up with some riding, looking to do some of the big Giro climbs (Stelvio etc) so thought if the GiroBio is in the area at the same time and doing similar climbs to last year I might as well ride up beforehand and watch the future stars go by.

Cheers

Even Robo-basso would struggle to win the Giro with the mountain domestics Cannondale have...Caruso, Wurf, Salerno, and Sarmiento if he's lucky...perhaps Agostini might step up this year as well and fulfill his talents. Certainly that's not enough though to help a rider through the mountains of the Giro though

I don't remember exactly, probably they'll be published around April. When it happens, anyway, you'll find the details here

Rodriguez has assured he'll stay with KAT. Acquarone was at at KAT's team presentation. Will RCS Sport invite KAT to the Giro? IMO If Giro big boss was there, then KAT will get invited.

Purito's interview at the presentation.

But first things first, they need to get a pro conti license.

Acquarone said that until the situation of KAT isn't clear, the decision of the wildcards will be postponed.

Purito to focus on the TDF as expected. Will leave Katusha if WT issue doesn't get resolved...
He's always wanted to go to next year's Tour. But, few days ago he said he will not change teams.

"Nada ha cambiado para mí, yo no voy a cambiar de equipo porque aquí estoy bien. Con el Katusha llegué a la cima del mundo y parece extraño que este equipo no esté incluido en la élite del ciclismo."

...but now he says he will. Read the article on the front page. The article you quote is no longer relevant.

Well looks like the 1st week classics idea.might be paying off.

Until he complains about the stages being too hard. I still remember his whining about the 2009 Giro d'Italia time trial. "A time trial shouldn't be longer than 1 hour or I can't win blah blah blah".

Cancellara wasn't having the best of springs in 2009. Cut him some slack. Of course Tom Boonen never complains...

I was rather pointing out his flip-flop behavior since the Giro presentation. :D

Wiggins will beat him handily in the TT, of course. It's indeed too long for him. If Cancellara wants pink it needs to happen in one of the first road stages. (I doubt RSNT will win the TTT)

When the world's best time trial specialist complains about a time trial being longer than 60 minutes then I won't cut him any slack.

Besides, he was good enough to win the Tour de Suisse not long after and the easy Tour prologue. ;)

I don't see what Boonen has to do with this? He complained the Vuelta was too hard and didn't start.

The presentation was in May. Im pretty sure he knows what the stages are.

Didn't you read his interviews about the 2009 time trial and why he abandoned?

He already decided to ride the 2009 Giro in 2008, so he also knew what the stages were like. Hardly a valid argument in this case.

I also remember he was complaining on twitter during the Tirreno-Adriatico stage Phil won in 2011.

I wasn't even talking about cancellara but about aquarone making the first week for classic riders. Then you come in and purely to vent your hate of cancellara make a poorly constructed sentence barely relevant to my post that cancellara will probably moan that the stages are too hard.

Personally i think pointing out that cancellara may have seen the stages before.deciding whether to.go, is a perfectly valid response to the suggestion that he is going to find the race difficult.
Has it not occurred to you that he hasn't done the giro since then and that stages suiting him might just be the reason he's coming back?

The only reason its not.valid.to.you is because you want to make the thread about cancellara pulling out from starting the tt in 2009. Go make your own thread for.that.

Maybe we could then add in a.discussion about which cobbled rider is once again going to let his form.drop in April and which one is once again going to.race out the year.

I don't see what Boonen has to do with this? He complained the Vuelta was too hard and didn't start.

Cancellara complained the tt was too hard and didn't start. So what's the problem?
