Contador will make the double and We will have an EPIC party here at the forum! ;)

In light of recent delay of the CAS decision, I agree 100% with Riis that AC has the right to race the Tour, and I now think he will be there... so I'm throwing my hat to AC to win the Tour.

It should be epic... last time we had a Giro-Tour double was 1998 with Pantani, and then a couple by Indurain in the early 1990's I think.

To say it with the words of Anquetil:

Andy Schleck can win the Tour, but only if Contador is there. And he'll never beat Contador.

:D

Ha brilliant

This giro surely takes too much out of him, especially the way he is riding.
He should keep it low key and avoid the tour imo.

I mean seriously... the guy will have to rest a lot between now and the tour, and at best case scenario should be out of form and/or under trained.

a schleck will win.
samu 2nd
gesink 3rd
evans 4th

OMG. Is that Timmy placing Samu above Gesink.

Good to see ive been getting through to you:D

I would laugh if Gesink doesnt beat Evans by 3 minutes or fails to make the podium and Dekker T has a ACF avatar for a year. :p

To be honest i am a bit afraid of Gesink but fear is good. I do rate him. Its probably that stupid Freire saying Gesink should have won the Tour by now :pbut i kind of believe the hype.

Putting aside my Samu support for a second i still feel that if both are on form, no injuries, then Samu should come out on top, not by much, but if they are even on the climbs then in the tt and hopefully a descent will come into play.

But its good to see that the Samu Gesink forum rivalry has gotten this personal.

Now i just need to get round to heavily antagonising ACF and the Evans crowd over the next month to make that angle a little more personal. :D

Schleck fans should know by now that I am their natural enemy. :p

The big contenders this year are Cadel Evans, Contador, Samuel Sanchez, and maybe Ivan Basso(if he recovers well). Dark horses are Robert Gesink, Roman Kreuziger, Tony Martin, Bradley Wiggins.

I think JVDB could go well this yr. Last yr it was his 1st as leader and he did not go in breaks. However i am concerned with his early season form and he needs to improve his ITT to stay ahead of Gesink. Also Gilbert and Greipel are coming so it will be a case of cadel and robbie for OPL again. I think this yr Cadel will go well he has his own schedule a better team than previous yrs and has hopefully used up his bad luck. I don't think Samu will go so well this yr, curse of the odd yr. Basso i am not so sure about, he has had to train again to be in good condition after an unfortunate crash. Also his early season form has not been so good. This is the yr for Shleck to step up to the plate. After twice finishing 2nd he should be confident enough to beat him without even having the help of Contador doing the Giro. He also has a good team like Basso. I think Contador will finish top 5 somehow going well near the end.

Go Cadellllllllllllllll Evans 11

ehh. I'd seriously hate seeing ac win. I have no problem seeing him destroy the giro, but the double would be a depressing thing imo.

I think that everybody in the cycling world should celebrate that if that happens again, no matter which rider is the chosen one to do that, if not celebrate at least show respect for such an achievement... I wont celebrate that if Andrew did that but I'd show my respects... a Giro - Tour is something so awesome!

Oh come on, Andy Schleck is nowhere close to winning the Tour this year, and I doubt if he will ever win it.
Schleck struggles to win short races like Paris-Nice and Dauphine-Libere. Thats where he should challenge Contador first and then maybe try a Grand Tour. To say that he's gonna come out and nail it is hard to believe. His experience so far can give him - maybe - a top ten finish.

The real contenders this year are Cadel Evans, Contador, Samuel Sanchez, and maybe Ivan Basso(if he recovers well). Dark horses are Robert Gesink, Roman Kreuziger, Tony Martin, Bradley Wiggins.

mmmm This post arrives 1 year later??? Are you from the past? or From the future where Ivan takes his 3rd Giro?

Should you have lived in the years of Merckx or Hinault you would have shot yourself in your head

There were 4 Giro-Tour doubles in the 70's and 3 in the 80's and in the 90's. It can't be that bad if it happens once after more than 10 years.

different time, cycling has changed, the difficulty of the giro, and the supposed "clean up for the sport" don't seem to fit in with a difficult giro / tour double. Especially with a guy whom arguably shouldn't be racing.
Don't expect this to be a popular opinion here, I just don't like the prospect.

my depression will have nothing to do with the individual achieving this, my thoughts will belong in a different forum.

There would be something beautiful about seeing AC fail at the tour, just like so many others have failed after going hard at the giro. It would make him seem human again.

wont be any celebrating for me. Heck I'd rather see Evans win.
:p

@ ACF the fact I put evans 4th is something tho :p

:p

I've always rated samu, I just never agreed that samu was that much better then Gesink. I think his experience will get him 2nd tho.
I like him also.

Yes, you putting Evans 4th is something. Evans will be much better than he has been before. A lot of us Cadel fanboys are more confident before. He's having a great season but hanging low. He's been in Sierra Nevada for the past two weeks with Santaromita training in Sierra nevada.

It will be a good percentage booster for the pies tommorow, TLR. In all fairness, Eagles will be top 4 this year. They are a very good side.

I just don't think he is a good enough climber, his season has certainly been impressive tho. We shall see.

Our forward pressure is amazing. Don't think top 4 tho. pies, cats, dons and blues, hawks I guarantee will finish higher.

We should give most teams a good game tho, tomorrow I hope for a close one.

Well if Evan's TDF is a non event as some people are predicting, not me, I think he should concentrate on the hilly classics next year, Paris-Nice, TOC and maybe even the Vuelta. Whether the sponsors agree is another thing because he is the only BMC rider with any grand tour form at all, for the GC anyway. I hope he does not hang around too long and become as ineffective as someone like Sastre, or at least target his goals more realistically after this season.

I hope Contador rides The Tour will be a mess without him, some random might win from a long break.

Without Saxo the tour will look to Leopard to control the race - I just don´t think they have the team to do it 5 years of course they did but Stuey and Jens are getting old legs now, and Andy just not that smart.... and I have a feeling Frank might end up as the best placed from Leopard.

Contador
Samu
Evans/Gesink
