There are definitely no real mountains in England. We have a few pretend mountains and largish hills though :p

Well you've obviously never been there. Maybe in terms of altitude there is nothing to compare with the French Alps or the North American Rockies but certainly as far as gradient and length of the climb goes there are a number of climbs in Victoria and and to a lesser extent in Tasmania that could be classified as Cat 1. Mt Buffaloe, Mt Hotham, Mt buller all used occasionally in the Herald Sun Tour. Believe it or not, in winter there is actually more snow in Australia than ther is in Switzerland.

Thats because when its winter in Australia its summer in Switzerland.

However you were correct in one context that Australians a more stupid than the Swiss, British and a majority of the rest of the world combined.

Seems like you've lost the theme of this thread Mr. Pig as you dont have anything interesting.....or amusing to add to it. Time you went away now before we all catch swine flu!

I'm not sure if you are joking or not. Are you? :D

There's this small little range called the Great Dividing Range which gives us plenty of skiing in the winter and good cycling in the spring, summer and autumn. You can try Mt. Baw Baw if you like: an Hors category climb with the final 6 km at an average grade of 12% (3.5 km at 13.5% and then 2.2 km at 11.6%) (see http://www.cyclingprofiles.com.au/HTM/MelClimbs/MC_BawBaw.htm for more information).

Other climbs in Victoria can be found at http://www.cyclingprofiles.com.au/HTM/MelClimbs/MC_Index2.htm

At the very least, I can say the climbing and mountains are better than in Ontario and rival or are better than the Colorado front range!

joking a bit

in proportion to the population though?

A Texan farmer goes to Australia for a vacation. There he meets an Aussie farmer and gets talking. The Aussie shows off his big wheat field and the Texan says, "Oh! We have wheat fields that are at least twice as large".

Then they walk around the ranch a little, and the Aussie shows off his herd of cattle. The Texan immediately says, " We have longhorns that are at least twice as large as your cows".

The conversation has, meanwhile, almost died when the Texan sees a herd of kangaroos hopping through the field. He asked, "And what are those"?

The Aussie replies with an incredulous look, "Don't you have any grasshoppers in Texas"?

According to "the voice of cycling" Evans first came to notice as a road biker when climbing Mt Wellington in my home town. It is 18.9km at an average gradient of 6.2%, finishing altitude 1271m, road surface rough bitumen/asphalt (or @$$ according to a biker friend).

Named after a pom but in the land of Oz. Frequently covered in snow at this time of the year - yeah, I know, it's winter only in the southern hemisphere!).

Mt Wellington is in Tasmania which is a separate country from Australia. Its not even on the mainland. So technically I think its still under British rule. Therefore it doesn't count. Is Evans from Tasmania? Explains a lot.

Now I can truly believe that only US geography is taught in US schools. Tasmania is a state of Tasmania, just like Hawaii is a state of the USA!

Evans is not from Tassie, but Tassie does produce some good riders (for a population of half million)! Plenty of mountains here!!!
