Well, Cadel had a lot left in the tank apparently, and Schleck actually performed well in the time trial considering his ability. I am glad Cadel won as he really deserves to win considering the work he put in. Looks like the real battle will be Cadel and Schleck for the next few tours as Contador continues to decline.

Aww mate. You don't really have the cred anymore to make cycling predictions. Your last one was a doozy.

Contador won the Giro this year by over six minutes, and was the two-time defending TdF champion, and three time champion overall. He's only 28 years old, while Evans is 34.

If Contador does not ride the Giro next year he will rightly be the favorite again in the Tour.

With the end of the tour drawing near and with the mountain stages weeding out the so called pretenders, and the previous champion Alberto Contador, a new era begins. This is an era where Andy Schleck will dominate the tour.

Most people believe Cadel Evans can make up the time, but the reality is that Cadel is racing for second. Here is the secret as to why:

First reason is because as Andy Schleck put it, the Maillot Jaune is said to "Give you wings." Vockler demonstrated this throughout the mountain stages, raising his ability to another level. It is certainly reasonable to believe that Andy could do the same.

Second reason is team radios. Andy will always know the time gap between him and Evans as he will be the last one to go in the time trial. Being last has a huge advantage.

Lastly, the profile of the time trial stage actually favors Andy since it is hilly. And with the enormous effort that Cadel has put in the mountain stages, you wonder if he has enough left in the tank to pull out a solid performance.

I admire Cadel Evans, he has had a great tour. But there are just too many variables going against him. Fact is, Cadel knows he needed yellow to have a real shot at winning the tour. But the reality is he'll be racing for second place in the time trial.

I know I'm late to this party but.....you really should have known that Andy needed more than a minute on Cadel ( I posted he needed at least 2 minutes) to feel he had a real chance to wear yellow into Paris. I'll have to peruse the posts to see what your response was to being so off in your prognostication and analysis.

I don't think so. That will only happen if Contador gets banned. Why do you think Conti will decline at all?!

I think its more of a delusional hope and dream based on his skewed observation of the past 2 Tours. Ignoring the facts and focusing on his intense dislike of Contador any less than dominant performance to him is a sign that his fav has a chance, one that was completely blown this year (and last year and in 2008).

I'm sure he will not ride any more with the commitment to winning than he has to considering the overall scrutiny he receives at races. We seem to be in a more conservative era and Contador will be like everyone else; more human. As for his championships it remains to be seen how many he actually has, doesn't it?
