What's wrong with that? Given the way he acts with the media, his all for me approach to races, his results so far this year, and his seemingly lack of any motivation at the Giro, it wouldn't be that surprising to me at least if not too many teams wanted him as their GC rider just so they wouldn't have to deal with all that.

So you think they'd sacrifice the enormous publicity just so they wouldn't have to deal with someone who's a little bit difficult?

Put it this way - Haimar Zubeldia and Jurgen van den Broek have contracts as a GC rider.

Would be the first winner to miss the next iteration since Contador. If Wiggo does miss it I imagine Froome will wear No 1. and the team will be:

Froome
Porte
Kiryienka
Sivtsou
Lopez
Thomas
Kennaugh
Boasson Hagen
Eisel

Sky press release.

Shouldn't Walsh be sending these out?

Zubeldia isn't really a GC captain, i.e hes low maintenance and cost and if anybody steps up he will be replaced by the blink of an eye imo.

(note: I don't subscribe to the idea Wiggins couldn't be a GC captain on another team)

I think Wiggins is genuinely injured fwiw, no way he would not want to do SOMETHING in this Tour (Stage victories in the TT stages/TTT stages) even if he is super-dom to Froome, especially after his Giro. But if hes injured, hes injured..

Could be a great opportunity for Kennaugh now if he makes the team because of this !

Also, trying to work out how this affects my biggest bet of the Tour - Porte E/W @ 100-1 !

Well Wiggins hardly ever shows anyone any respect either, so its not that surprising.

Froome gave him a tour and look how Wiggins treats him

Wiggins has had a frustrating year and if he misses the Tour the year could be a write off like Andy's 2012. Froome did not give Wiggins anything. Wiggins was the leader and apart from one stage where Froome accidentally rode away from Wiggins, Froome played the team card properly. This is nothing it has had happened plenty of times over the years where teams have more than one possibility for a GT win. I don't understand the hostility towards Wiggins. The response to Di Luca's idiocy was less than the flak Wiggins constantly cops. Even if people don't like his personality or his style of racing there is no doubt the guy is talented. I'm no Sky fan but if the guy has health problems he deserves a break from the ongoing hysteria and conspiracy theories.

I'd say Wiggins is more than a little bit difficult. And I think other teams would look more at the results he could bring in than the publicity he would bring them. And with the season he's having thus far it's by no means a sure thing if we will ever see him back to a level where he can bring in the results.

Not to say that he can't be a GC rider on another team, just that I think it's unlikely a lot of teams would want to bother signing him as their GC guy given the risk that comes with it.

DI luca is also talented. And you might have missed all the flak di luca got because those discussions belong and took place in "the clinic". you keep getting told and it keeps bouncing off you. Doping talk goes there not here, thats why di luca didnt get so much criticism here.

And yes froome did give wiggins a lot. He worked his *** of for him. And in return he got slammed by wiggins in the press.

I am sad if he misses the Tour. The champ should be there + I like the continouation fo the Sky drama + I would like the World to see the result when Wiggo meet world class climbing competition (imagine: "brick meets face")

Interesting until the blanket coverage in the cycling press causes your brain to vomit

This. In virtually every english language European cycling mag you are guaranteed at least 3 articles on Sky and their riders, with one of them making the cover in 30% of the year's issues. Luckily Wiggins didn't win the Giro nor having a season comparable to 2012 or we'd be left with nothing to upchuck and just be having the dry heaves.:(
