Not sure why Wiggins should be expected to quit. While he has probably lost a chance even for a podium, he still has a good chance to win the MTT if he recovers. Unless of course he doesn't enjoy carrying bottles for Uran...

You cannot expect the nobility to stoop to helping the commoners, especially a foreigner who in better days of the empire would have been target practice for her majesty's red coats.

Lets not use excuses here, he wasn't strong enough to win it and did crack and lose time. Plus A Schleck did even more than Contador in that Tour as well as the performances of Tommy V who rode like a hero to defend yellow. Not a lame Tour at all.

What? Andy did more in that Tour? That is too funny. Andy attacked once. It was a good attack. It was a nice ride. But does it equal Alberto's performances on stage 4(?), 16, 17, 19, 20?? Although I must admit Andy whining about wet descents was funny.

I believe Alberto's 2009 and 2011 seasons were more impressive than Wiggins 2012 season, although his season was very impressive of course.

I think Wiggans has been trying to pull a Cipo fake crash exit but hasn't figured out you can only do it when there's a flight out within the reach second team car's reach before the stage ends. Practice makes perfect I guess.

Please kids take a time out from the forum and reconsider your pathetic remarks regarding Wiggins. This has gotten out of hand the last days. 90% of the posts regarding him being a *****, dressing ridiculous etc. ...unreal.

edit: Oh, and lets not forget completely invented stories about what he did or plans to do

Without looking back I remember Andy attacking more than once (stage 18+19 at least) although only one attack was a success. I believe Andy fighting for the win also means it was a better Tour for him than Alberto.

I agree Alberto's 2009 was very impressive as was his 2011 Giro performance.

Back to Wiggins it seems as though he been withdrawn. It's a shame but I hope this does not give Sky a dilemma for the Tour, they must stick with Froome.

I thought Wiggins was a **** long before it was cool, but the way this thread has turned in to a school trip for the clinic is nearly as pathetic as some of the straightforwardly mean-spirited, slow witted and hateful 'analysis' being posted.

Yep a real low point among many recent lows

I also think Vuelta and Worlds TT

And Kerrison to give some consideration to very low body weights and over training when riders are heading to gt with potential for sh1tty cold weather

This is a dilemma that has always been present in the sport. But you are right...it certainly could be a bigger factor for the Giro given the time of the year.

Agree with this but I think his mind is set on going to the 100th Tour as defending champion.

He should go away and regroup mentally, put in the hard work and arrive at the Vuelta in top shape again. Then move on to Worlds TT.

you said Andy did more than Contador. Which is simply not true. Schleck attacked once all race, Contador 3 times. And most of his margin over Contador came from a ridiculous headstart he got in the first week when Contador took time on schleck on what was an uphill finish but the braindead comissaires impleneted some Byzantine 3k rule which gave schleck 1 and a half minutes over Contador. Schleck also got time on Contador in a ttt where he and frank schleck barely hung on to cancellara and never once took a turn on the front, while Contador who did the most pulling on the front for his team lost another 30 seconds.

A proper course with more than the pathetic 50k of time trial they had that year and with a little less misfortune for Contador, they would have finished around equal, and that's including the knee injury Contador got half way through.

Getting back on topic...

Brit unable to start stage 13 on medical grounds

Sir Bradley Wiggins has been withdrawn from the Giro d’Italia on the medical advice of the team doctor due to illness.

Team Sky medical staff monitored the 33-year-old overnight following a difficult stage 12 that saw Wiggins slip off the back of the peloton in the closing stages.

Due to a worsening chest infection, the decision was taken for Wiggins not to start the race’s 13th stage on Friday from Busseto to Cherasco.

With a strong group of eight riders remaining at the Giro, Team Sky will ride in support of Rigoberto Urán. The Colombian currently sits in third place overall, two minutes and four seconds off the race lead.

Outlining the situation, Team Sky Team Principal Sir Dave Brailsford said: “We monitored Bradley overnight and this morning we’ve withdrawn him from the Giro after consulting the team doctor. His chest infection has been getting worse and our primary concern is always the health of our riders.

“Bradley will return to the UK today for treatment and to rest and we hope to have him back on the road as soon as possible.

“As a passionate racer he wanted to continue but he is simply unable to do so on medical grounds.”

Everyone at Team Sky would like to wish Bradley a speedy recovery.

Always sad to read something like that, these are elite athletes who live for the races. Maybe he can start the TdS, hasn't done that one before right, at least not as a GC rider, might give him some motivation and gauge his health before a potential TDF participation. Interesting route too, June 8th to June 16th -> http://www.tourdesuisse.ch/en/tour_de_suisse_2013/stages/

this is not SKY fan club, everyone is entitled opinion. idiot

Never said it was and I can understand why people dislike him however some of the stuff on here goes beyond a joke. The fact that his withdrawal through illness calls for you to post 'the clown has gone' on Nibs thread backs up my point.

Pfff... pile of jackals get a buzz again. There is definetely very unhealthy atmosphere in the thread. Everyone who bashes Wiggins continiously and remorselessly I feel sorry for you, because society necessarily bash you every day, otherwise people just don't become guys like you.

Just leave it...I think we're beyond the point of reasonable discussion here.
