I hope he recovers swiftly and is able to start the Tour to support Froome.

Wiggins is a powerful bike racer and will be extremely important if he's close to 100%.

Whereas the Tour's parcours favoured him last year; he had to win the race. People can only beat what's put in front of you. I certainly won't be devaluing Nibali's if he wins the Giro despite the fact that the Giro field is similar in strength if not slightly weaker than last year's tour.

Not a fan of Wiggins but the vitriol and rubbish posted on this thread does these forums no favours.

it looks like ASO upgraded Oscar to the 2006 TdF winner after Floyd was DQd.

So yup he is defo in the running for worst ever "winner"

Getting back on topic, will be very interesting to see how long Sir Wiggos chest infection lasts, will he make it to the TdS or  the TdF? In any sort of condition to perform? Remembering its a particularly hilly edition certainly compared to last years.

Michelle will now be even more supremely confidant her boy is top dawg

Wiggins a goner, has a cold, a chest infection.

Right.

And yet his numbers at the TT were great, and yet he put his whole team on the front tuesday where he only lost 30 seconds due to that 20% slope.

I dont believe it.

I hope he will now be 100% ready for the Tour. Not because I am a fan of him or Sky, but because I would like to be entertained by the Froome/Wigging drama.

haha good call:D. OK the second to the worst

Andy's was worse too. Desk win.

But tbh it was not Wiggins fault that the 2012 Tour competition and route was bad.

He would've been much stronger if he'd been healthy. There was maybe 20 meters with 20%. 3k at 10-11%.

no airstream, its not ok to tell people they are "spleenful" or ill natured

Shoot the message not the messenger. If you have a problem with a post, report it, but don't get caught up in tit for tat insults or general whingeing and moaning

And it's an illness he's had for "several days" (according to the Guardian).

Oh, and let's not forget his sore knee...

It's hard to believe what's coming out of Sky.

Maybe he's ill and the power figures story from the TT was just bluff?

Or maybe the illness and injury stories are a smokescreen to let him walk?

Who knows? But I think it's one or the other, otherwise is an amazing sequence of unrelated bad luck.

Oh, so that's why you're deleting posts from people who try to plead for a reasonable discussion....got it.

Ah its a shame he was ill, you could tell from day 1. He would have definitely challenged for the Maglia Rosa had he been fit, he may well have taken it too.

Very hard to deal with trolling posts like those of MAxMartin's though.

I presume the illness that has been in the Sky camp is the same one that hit Cataldo. He was able to recover in around a week whilst still riding.

All this nonsense about Wiggins faking an illness because he was ok a few days ago... look at the way Cataldo performed the day after he was excellent in the TTT.

Its the right decision for him to quit... lets hope Uran isn't the next to become infected.

And was dropped by peleton on flat.

Are you serious or just trolling?

Ye of course. I dont doubt he has been ill for a few days, and it might have played in on the MTF, but no way he was ill from day 1 and no way that made him descend liek that. Excuses excuses.

He was definately sick yesterday, but people arguing he was sick from day 1 are grasping for staws to make excuses.

Rewatched yesterday's stage (Had Sky+) it. At 19k the 'Wiggins group' had the gap down to 30 sec - 1 minute (ANd dropping). Next check at ~ 15k suddenly he'd lost his group (Including most of his own team mates) and had given up a minute or so to the peloton. When he can't follow his team-mates wheels on a pan flat road then ye he was definitely ill. He looked terrible too, really red in the face.

But even if he was well I don't think he'd have won the giro, his grandmother descending had nothing to do with illness. As I've said before it was a combo of nerves & sickness.

Even if he was sick yesterday he would have been up to keep with the peloton if he could corner in the rain, but because he slowed down to almost a stand still with every bend he had to expend so much more energy than everyone else which was his biggest downfall.

What does this spin of thought refer to?

People dislike Wiggins that much that since now they will always memorize the 13 Giro to sweetly proclam 'the man hit his objective level.

Sky were very full of themselves going into the race. Lots of talk about their scientific numbers approach to training and the lack of proper structured training by the other teams.

Seems Wiggins arrived in poor shape, perhaps over trained, with a shade too little body fat and a weak immune system.

There is more to training than power numbers and data analysis.

Sky might have done a little bragging about their scientific approach. but I'm pretty sure they never commented on other teams training approaches leave alone judging them.

You might be right regarding Wiggins not being robust enough for such weather conditions.

I think this is spot-on.

Super-low body fat levels might work out in the Tour and Vuelta, but not in May. It is just too cold and wet.
