Morbius said:What could be a realistic plan for Wiggins for the rest of the year? A complete rest for recovery followed by Vuelta might be ideal, but the parcours isn't suitable for him, so what else?
If he is going to ride the Tour, does he ride Dauphine as well, or train in Tenariffe?
Does he target the Worlds (presumably time trial), and if so does he need to do the Vuelta or is ToB enough?
ElDepo said:. If you take away Wiggin’s’ support riders, including Froome, he becomes just an average climber.
the asian said:Well, as expected he quits the Giro. Now to ride the Tour and ruin Froome's chances !
Hope he gets well soon.

An average climber who came 3rd in a Vuelta with only 50k of tt, where he actually sucked.
An average climber who posted such a high vam on verbier in 2009. Who posted one of the best times up Col de eze. Hell, who even beat the likes of Scarponi and Gesink on tuesday even though hes clearly off form.
Yeah, he hasn't really been an average climber last few years has he.![]()

ElDepo said:When was the last time a Tour de France winner was just a good rider not a great one? Enter Bradley Wiggin’s or Wiggo. If you take away Wiggin’s’ support riders, including Froome, he becomes just an average climber. Take way flat time trials and he is hopelessly lost. Through in some rain and you can forget about it. It appears to me that Team Sky won the Tour last year not Wiggin’s. Why did everybody including Uran wait for this guy early in the Giro, what a fail by Team Sky. I hope Wiggo apologizes to his teammates. If Wiggin’s wants Tour selection determined by real European road racing (rather than training on an island) his destined for domestique duties. I wonder if Team Sky can figure this one out?
Heckler said:I'm no fan, but, this is a little silly. He wasn't unfit at the start. Without the flat tire bike change he would have won the ITT. With no virus and sunny weather, the standings would probably look a lot different. This is what bike racing looks like; no one wins everything, no one finishes every tour.

Heckler said:He's won in every condition. Some pros go their whole career without winning anything. Some without winning anything without help...
There was a theory posed elsewhere that the respiratory infection messed with his inner ear, and therefor his balance. It's just a theory, but...

Sanctioned for calling out Sir Wiggo's bluff from the start?airstream said:Mods, is it within the rules to keep such a high degree of acrimony, provoke lots of people and not to be sanctioned?
thehog said:He has? Can't remember wiggins winning anything other than in good weather with a full team riding him to the finish.
Effective, yes. But not all of the time.

"I'm disappointed, but some things you can't control," Wiggins told Sky Italia. "It's really disappointing to stop in this way because we came here for so much more.
"This morning the doctor said 'That's enough', because I didn't really have much sleep last night and yesterday was really bad and we had a long stage again today.
"It's how long you can keep fighting for before you say the GC has gone now."
"It's hard to be part of the Giro just to be a number because everybody expected so much. There are a lot of riders in the peloton at the moment that are sick, but as the winner of the Tour, you can't hide away and get over it.
"It was hard being in that position yesterday, because I am not used to it. I am not used to being dropped on the flat from a grupetto. That's a sign that something is not right.
"The decision was made with a view to being back to full strength for the Tour, so I think had we continued in this Giro, the risk was that I did more damage long-term, so I think the team have taken the decision to put a stop to it now and start thinking about getting back to full strength for the Tour"
