Ben Gordon.

I'm saying a fat no on Ben Gordon and Luol is pretty suspect as well, at least for what we're talking about in this thread. Ben's parents are Jamaican and he was born in the UK but they moved to the US soon after he was born. Luol was born in the Sudan but at least lived in the UK from ages 8-13 and played for the British Junior National team before moving to the US so I guess he counts.

It seems they fit the pattern of "British" sportspersons quite well!

Stage 5 should bring a smile to Wiggins face:p.

Definitely.
Thank you Sir Brailsford. Really amazing choices in this 2014.

Now I just need me some stupid **** coming for Michelle "Darth Bi*ch" Cound and we're getting the jackpot.

Wiggins had no chance of winning this year's Tour. Not even top 5 and he'd have lost plenty of time in the conditions today.

This has to be one of Brad's best cycling days in a long time. Certainly lightened my mood when I saw the news this afternoon.

What do you think his future is in cycling?

Track or retirement.

Only worth signing a road contract if he feels sufficiently insulted to be motivated, and stuff like today is only going to make him feel better, and thus less motivated.

TBH, I doubt W can do any better on the wet roads than Froom.

Wiggins has excellent form on wet roads (see this year's national TT for instance).
The Giro debacle was a case of wet and downhill on slippery roads.... a slightly different kettle of fish. He also had eyes on another prize, so was keen to "self preserve". That's why he descended like a girl.

If he had his eyes on another prize (the Tour) then he'd have been putting in the necessary training required for him to even have a very outside chance of winning it. His head and heart hasn't been in cycling since 2012 (understandable). He's admitted that himself. Why is it so difficult for people/Wiggins fans to accept that?

You are insanely hard for Froome who has cried over Twitter comments and dropped out of the race second to Andy Schleck, who turns out had a ton of terrible issues in the knee. Froome crashed himself three times.

He's weak as hell.

What twitter comments did he cry over?

Froome injured his wrist yesterday, presumably pretty badly otherwise Sky wouldn't have started the day by assigning Thomas and Eisel to look after Porte.

And again, what does this have to do with Wiggins?

Wiggins would suffered badly today, he rode great Roubaix but we know he hates the wet and crashing and seen that at the Giro when he was at similar weight to July now.

No he doesnt. Twice in his career his confidence when descending has plummeted (ask Thibaut Pinot what thats like). This culminated in last years Giro when he couldnt descend for toffee in the rain. It was the descending and lack of confidence which was the problem, heightened by the rain. In normal circumstances and when his head is in the right place he doesnt have issues with the rain.

183 David Lopez Garcia (Spa) Team Sky 0:22:40
187 Vasili Kiryienka (Blr) Team Sky
192 Xabier Zandio Echaide (Spa) Team Sky 0:32:52
DNF Christopher Froome (GBr) Team Sky

I donot know if he would have crashed but with his experience in the cobbles at least better than these guys. Plus he hates the combination of wet and downhills. The cobbles don't have much downhill

Brailsford just confirmed that Porte would have been plan B even if Wiggins had been selected for the Tour. Makes perfect sense that he wasn't selected then doesn't it? Wiggins would have been a pure domestique and likely wouldn't have accepted that role anyway.

A lot of people read far too much into a GC win in California against some first and second year pros.

Don't you think he would say this anyway ?

Not really. If Wiggins had been strong enough to contend for GC and stronger than Porte then they'd have taken him.

Of course he'd been focussing on Paris-Roubaix for most of the year so it was always extremely likely that he'd be left out of the Tour squad and wouldn't be climbing well enough to justify selection.

If Sky have made a mistake then it's by not communicating all of this clearly during the year (especially to the Wiggins fans).

The CN write-up : http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brailsford-has-no-regrets-over-not-selecting-wiggins

Standard Brailsford BS and he's going on the attack but even if Wiggins couldn't have laid claim to being "Plan B" (nothing shows he couldn't based on his climbing at the TOC, at least decent regardless of the competition, and his GB ITT massive win), Brailsford is still at fault for failing to maintain the 2012 TDF winner at least at that "Plan B" level. The reality is that he went "full ***" on Froome at the end of 2012 and is now caught with his pants down with no leader in the biggest race in the world and an unproven "Plan B" who's not going to go the distance, barring any ridiculous "accidents". Shame on him and we'll see how far his his "neck on the line" bravado goes...
