The Giro debacle was a case of wet and downhill on slippery roads.... a slightly different kettle of fish. He also had eyes on another prize, so was keen to "self preserve". That's why he descended like a girl.

Bull crap. He descended like a girl because he lost his nerve, simple really.

That said, shame he isn't in the race. I'm not a Wiggo fan but I thought he got a raw deal this year.

He did lose his nerve... downhill in the wet on slippery roads. My point stands. He does have form on wet roads. Anyway, carry on.

The CN write-up : http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brailsford-has-no-regrets-over-not-selecting-wiggins

Standard Brailsford BS and he's going on the attack but even if Wiggins couldn't have laid claim to being "Plan B" (nothing shows he couldn't based on his climbing at the TOC, at least decent regardless of the competition, and his GB ITT massive win), Brailsford is still at fault for failing to maintain the 2012 TDF winner at least at that "Plan B" level. The reality is that he went "full ***" on Froome at the end of 2012 and is now caught with his pants down with no leader in the biggest race in the world and an unproven "Plan B" who's not going to go the distance, barring any ridiculous "accidents". Shame on him and we'll see how far his his "neck on the line" bravado goes...

I never knew there were so many hardcore Wigans fans on here. You are overrating him so bad here its not even funny and I think you are misusing the highly offensive "full ***" meme but I could be wrong about that.

Not really. If Wiggins had been strong enough to contend for GC and stronger than Porte then they'd have taken him.

Of course he'd been focussing on Paris-Roubaix for most of the year so it was always extremely likely that he'd be left out of the Tour squad and wouldn't be climbing well enough to justify selection.

They took Thomas despite his focus on classics. Wiggins can do a similar job, with perhaps a TT win possibility too.

Point is SDB made sure Wiggins wasn't in the hunt - no altitude training camps or training with Froome etc.

This wasn't a performance decision - it was a team politics decision. Rather than getting maximum potential out of all riders, SDB concentrated on what Froome wanted. Keeping Porte, as Froomes friend and training partner, as plan B was easy.

Others have managed what SDB refused - Lemond/Hinault for example.
Wiggins needed to be held to his word that he would ride for Froome - which would also mean Porte if Froome failed.
And the Froome camp/Wiggins camp mentality had to be removed.

Not saying it would've worked out like that - but it would've been good entertainment - what pro cycling is about after all..

In the GTs I think Skys success is based as much on the size of its chequebook as on SDBs techniques.

I've just been looking at Bradley's Instagram page, very interesting.

He's got pictures of a few historic bikes he's bought to make up as projects, and a picture of his son riding his road bike in full Omega Pharma kit, with #OmegaPharma in the description.

So it could be something completely innocent in that his son wants to look like Cav, or something for us forumities to speculate on an imminent transfer.

With Froome's broken wrist and hand I guess he's now got a bit more value to SDB.

Wiggins to OPQS would be interesting, He'd certainly add some extra punch to the sprint train and also be given freedom to do what he wants in the mountains when Uran doesn't ride. Not to mention boosting an already very strong TTT squad. As you said though there's probably nothing in it and his son just likes Cav.

OPQS has the big bucks, unlike stingy Garmin. So not surprised.

It's the #OmegaPharma he's put in the description that sort of hints at something.
Where would he fit in at OPQS as they seem to be laden with talent in every department?

Worth a look at his Instagram site as he seems to love everything to do with the history of bike racing, with a nice collection of historic frames to be built up.

Love the ide of Wiggins to OPQS. Also with Gamin merging with Cannondale they will have too many bodies anyway.

I do think Wiggo is motivated by money and as you say OPQS have a good sized wallet.

Think Wiggo would fit right in and really hope this rumour proves right :)

This. OPQS already has multiple great riders. They have better climbers, better time trialist, and better classics riders. They have people all ready "waiting in line" for leadership roles. IF Wiggo did go there he would have to be content with 2nd pickings. I wouldn't mind seeing him there, but personally, I don't think he'd get many leadership positions in "key" races.

OK but OPQS are not Sky. I think they run their ship with more flexibility. Its not a do-or-die master plan. There are many riders in OPQS that aren't the best at anything but they are a team which are tough as nails and pull together for the best chance of victory.

How does this fit in with Sky's rumoured signing of Lars Boom?

I think we should take this news with a pinch of salt as nothing's been confirmed yet.

I would not be opposed to Wiggo joining Orica-Green Edge
either, as long as Cath and Ben and Isabella are okay with it.

As far as him riding the Tour de France this year, he's been
there, won that...what I would really like is for him to ride the
ITT at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and make up for
the embarrassment in Manchester, the last time the Games
were in the UK. Brad has won many races and championships
on both the road and track, but he has never won Gold at the
Commonwealth Games. It would be a fantastic treat for the
fans in Glasgow to see BMW at his best.

It would make more sense for Big Wig to ride the Vuelta in
preparation for the ITT at the Worlds, than to ride the Tour,
the way I see it
.
re: the bolded...yesterdays reports seem to confirm this.

If Bradders wants to concentrate on PR, then OPQS might be a difficult team to slot into. They've already plenty of cards to play in the classics, would they really want to devote their efforts to Wiggins when he hasn't yet even podiumed in any such race?

Sky or Garmin are both a much better fit for his apparent ambitions.

If Wiggins was sporting a wide grin after Froome DNF, now he would be laughing after the collapse of Plan B with Porte.:D:p
