Wow, way to crap all over Sastre.

Ironic considering Wiggins just said about 10 hours ago on twitter that people who accuse him of doping wouldn't have the balls to say it to his face.

Does he have the balls to say it to Sastre then?

Yeah, exactly.

Also, is he badmouthing his pal Armstrong? Would he say it to Lance's face? Before, or after posing for the cover of another book? Not cool.

It was a blatant swipe at Contador. I doubt Sastre even crossed his mind
Actually, I agree. I don't think Sastre crossed his mind. But that, in itself, speaks volumes about him.

Wiggins would be advised to play with a straight bat in interviews leading up to July and concentrate on the cycling. I can appreciate what he's trying to say, but you're only ever going to end up upsetting somebody, in addition to about 90% of this forum.

In fairness, Wiggo does say lots of nice things about Evans, arguably his biggest rival in July.

"For the first time last year, you had a Tour winner who everyone could believe in"

He's clearly NOT only talking about Contador here. If not, why say "for the first time last year"? It makes no sense.

He also called cyclingnews forum users "spinless w*nkers" on twitter....
Well, clinic posters, to be precise. ;)

Bit surprised he indirectly called out Armstrong, even if it was obviously a swipe at Contador.

I am not attacking Sastre, but weren't there a story about him, some Astana rider and text messages about doping a cuople of weeks after his Tour win?

Still, I think this was Wiggins "attacking" AC and LA not pointing fingers att Sastre.

Personally, I thinks it's refreshing to see someone, even if just a little, leaving the Omerta comfort zone, just for a while. Seeing riders praise AC and LA makes me sick.

With regard to his TT abilities I think that a lot of people overrate them. In the context of a grand tour he's been several times amongst the best but he's rarely been close to winning one and talk of him ragging two minutes out of Evans is ridiculous.

At the same time, I think he's a better climber than people think. There's several examples of him being able to successfully minimise losses in the mntns and, given that we probably didn't see the best of him in last years vuelta there may be a little more to come.

Given the route of the tour its clear that he's got a big chance as he now has a fairly well balanced skill set but I wouldn't expect any Indurain-like dominance against the clock. If Evans arrives with last years form then I can see it being very close.

What gives about Menchov though. Do people really think he's a better bet now than, say, back in 2006 or 2008 when HE was the one found wanting on the most important mountain finishes in the final week?

I think his comments are fine. I know Contador had god like status for some people on here but no one is beyond criticism. Many journalists, respected ones have the same opinion of Contador and other Tour winners. Wiggins is being honest and that is ok by me. If he treads on a few toes so what ? Most honest comments do. It's refreshing that he has an opinion instead of the usual commentary you sometimes get amongst athletes and being afraid of what other people think.

Nope, you're thinking of Pereiro.

My point here is that he either completely overlooked Sastre, or implied bad things about him. Probably the first, but that's bad in itself.

I'd be glad if Wiggins left the omertà comfort zone for sure, but I'm not sure he had Armstrong in mind either. I think it was all about Contador. He hasn't spoken out against Armstrong recently - on the contrary, he's talked him up as a role model. So it's less a breach of omertà and more selective thinking, especially if you read it as "Armstrong and Evans are good and Contador and Sastre are bad".

I wonder if if Wiggo rides the Tour would he appear at the Tour next year. He has afterall said that if he wins the Tour he will just retire. Then again 15 months ago he was saying about how everything for him between 2008 and 2012 is just a distraction and all he cares about is TP gold in 2012 and now hes not even doing TP Gold, so I think he can change his mind.

Would also be interesting to see the anglophone press react next year with Contador coming back and 2 anglophone winners during Contador's ban, would they claim Wiggins and Evans are the favourites and that Contador can't win in a clean peloton, or would he still be the favourite.

Boonen said he would retire at the age of 30. He also said he would retire if Gilbert dropped him at the Belgian Nats last year. :D

Contador said he would quit if he was banned.

Let us just be clear: Wiggo will never win the tour.

Quit cycling or quit gifting stages? Maybe he said the first, I hope he'll do the latter

some more from today's l'equipe:
the feeling is he has nothing against alberto but against the situation(which we all know is 90% uci's fault)

he's nostalgic for the cycling of the past.says at his first pro race, tour med he didn't dare to attack guys like virenque, moreau, museeuw.the hierarchy was respected.nowadays the youngsters have no fear and go around like "fucc contador","fucc wiggins". lol true that.

he says the most stylish guys on a bike are ll sanchez and cancellara

reiterates that tommy simpson is his absolute hero.

nice interview, too bad cyclingnews and other sites pulled out of the context those headlines.i'm absolutely sure he has nothing against alberto.
