So everyone is a hater. Come on Jens. That is just a too simplistic view. How can you call someome a patron of the sport who holds someone like Lance up as a hero? I have been one of the few who stood up for Wiggins in the past around here but with a more objective view I can understand many people's concerns on the forum as well at the same time.

The weird thing about Wiggins's rant is that not once did he speak up for clean cycling and deny doping. Wiggins in the past has called for all riders to publish their bio passport data. Well why don't Sky do it and lead the way. I am sure Cyclingnews can get respected people to interpret them and publish their views on the website and if everything is grand after that I would be more than delighted but Brad don't dismiss the fans and their scepticism, we haved been scarred one too many times.

You're a catching words with your open mouth. So they needs to address every subject when asked a question? Major facepalm!

Might be just me, but I don't understand that post.

Correct, it's just you.

On another note, if you make your (lots of) money as a marketing tool, which is one argument for what elite athletes are, then you should expect questions like he's had.

There's always other riders supporting someone getting upity. Pharmstrong had supporters, does that change what he was doing?

So if someone said to you, in all seriousness, that you are a liar and a cheat, and should be thrown out of your profession. And you could not see that they had any evidence, but they kept doing it, your response would simply be 'meh', and if you got angry, it would be evidence they were right?

Ummm, that was not really the journo's question.

BTW - given Wiggo's own comparison to USPS, this is hardly expected, is it?

Tour de France 2012: Bradley Wiggins' rant about those sullying his name were justified, says Sky team principal

Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford today offered to invite all the anonymous tweeters smearing Brad Wiggins name with hints at doping to a seminar at Manchester at the end of year ...

I see this as one of the biggest problems. When you have surrounded yourself with only supporters and no one calls you on your behaviours, you live in a bubble.

This does not make me think Wiggo has been wronged, it just makes me understand why he is so deluded in his presentation. :D

I invite Wiggins to eat my contaminated steak at his birth city for assuming we all have no life and only cyclists work hard.

Thanks for contributing to the discussion on Wiggins. You made a lot of valid points about him.

ok.what planet are you on! His response was speaking for clean cycling. If you can't see that well that's a shame

Wiggo talking in French on TV after the chrono, "de bonnes pattes", "un arrivée technical", "mon école sur la piste", "nickel, regarde", "je vais pas changer, j'ai la passion, on a vu dans la conférence de presse hier", "pas désolé pour hier"

What else?

Horner says this is a light Tour in the mountains. The first week has been not that hard with little "on gas" time. People are falling into the idea that it's clinic. Wiggins has to have had plenty of motivation all season because of the "flat" ITT miles. If he were facing a mountain route with a moutain ITT, it would be harder on mental side of it. When you compete in cycling or any profile affected sport, you know when a course suits you and that can make for driven performance. It is the often used "morale" factor.

I prefer to let the current controls be the judge. I think the bio passport is working for the most part and is improving.

Wiggins will be challenged in the mountains, but he now has a buffer and a long ITT final to keep him focused.

His outburst do hurt him, but he should have been prepared for the question. The song does remain the same. It is sung very loudly and proudly when comes to cycling.

It best would be to say, "you have ask that question other sports and their own improved performances." in reply to such question.

So Wiggins lashing out against people questioning Sky's performance is him speaking up for clean cycling.

So judging by your logic, Armstrong must of been speaking up for clean cycling when he also in the past lashed out against his detractors questioning him.

Again, you are catching words. My words this time. Maybe what I was saying got lost in translation as English not my first language. Regardless, You have infered in both posts things which i havent said or that which the cyclist.

My logic - No I'm not getting drawn into a comment on Armstrong. After all this is which wouldnt be contributing to the "Wiggins discussion" would it ;) (your words, not mine!)

I did'nt take up on your post wrongly. You said in the bolded part he was speaking up for clean cycling in his rant. I did'nt see any mention of those two words in his rant. You are the one who has caught those 2 words clean cycling out of nowhere. Wiggins had a chance to do this in a measured and precise response and speak up for the transparency that he so vocally called for in the past but he declined. That would of been the response for clean cycling.

I am not saying Wiggins is a doper. I don't have a doping only view to every good performance I see but when you look at the past of this sport you can't help but to ask these questions.

yawn. by default, his response was exactly that. That's what I'm saying. We can agree to differ and there's nothing lost between us there dont you think? My point was his response addressed that. You say he didnt address it at all. Simples.

re: Wiggins' chance, well again, he has done in the past. He didnt do directly in this instance but then that wasnt the directed question. Well, each rider reacts differently. I seem to recall Evans responding in a non vocal way a few years back only a minute or so after crossing the finish line.

Each to their own. unlike you, i dont look at others good performances and think doping. That would take a lot of time n'est pas! ;)

You have misinterpreted my post once again. Just look my post above. I think you said English is not your first language so I am prepared to give you the benefit of the doubt.

We move on.

Yes indeed. I have also tried correct myself in the subsequent post after this. We move on...as in life!

Anyway, I am interested who you think will win this tour? I have said Evans from day one, even when his team announced I have no worries his deficient mountain team. Same last year. I still think this...but less!

You still think Evans will win the tour? Wow. There is another 50k time trial coming up. Evans needs to take back four minutes in the mountains just to be level with Wiggins. Think he needs to start worrying about a podium spot.

Dude, Im an Evans fan so the heart in me says yes. Of course. Plus there is two weeks cycling to go. Many things may happen. Many things may not. I can think like this I think!

But your point - yes I realise all this. Realistically something major will need to happen for Evans. But he can descend.

Many things can happen my friend! (ok I know it might not!)

This sport is guilty of what? Trying to clean it's act! The Bio passport should be implemented across all of sport. No one is even talking about it.The almost singular focus on cycling's effort and results in the effort against PEDs can be exploited. "Cycling is the sport of dope." Typical of human nature. Adam blamed Eve even though he knew it was a no no. Point the finger to advert attention from you own guilt.

Swimming and athletics have IIRC adopted similar schemes. Two of the recently banned Russians athletes were for irregularities in their passports

And those 4 mins he has to get on Wiggins will have to happen on the 2 MTF as I can't see him doing much on the descent ones.

And he also has to take 2 minutes on Froome, which is even less likely to happen on the 2 MTFs.

I can see Evans throwing caution to the wind and hooking up with Nibs or Samu to grind up the final few kms of a climb and descend like madmen down the other side, gaining time all along. If anyone's willing to push his own boundaries to win, it's the new Evans.

But still, Wiggins surely has this one. Random picture time now.

Yep, his responses were way over the top especially being that they are directed at anonymous sources. He could have taken the highroad but for whatever reasons he took it into the gutter. I would've thought that he'd be riding a high considering how well they're doing and not let anything alter that great mood.

I think the intense scrutiny and attention of being in yellow and also the presumptive overall winner is really getting to him. Also throw in a dash of guilty conscience and there you have it. He's always seemed to have a bit of an angry side to him from a few interviews I recall. His rant didn't really take me by surprise, other than what took him so long.

I blame it all on the sideburns. And he's probably hungry all the time. Freaking guy is gaunt. Eat something!
