i just edited that fairly dramatically..
what results have you got for 2006, cos i cant find anything for that year..
He was about 15th in Dauphine prologue, then dont even think he snagged a top 10 for the Tour prologue which Hushovd won (Cancellara missed the squad as Riis picked best domo's and his grimpeurs).

Jones had him on a peak for the Tour. Then after Boardman's advice was, just ride normally, and train normally for the road, and the tt results will come. So, 2006, big compromise in his program, a very bullish build up, centred on the Tour prologue. Was a big disappointment. Since he took the year off the track.

I reckon if Tim Henman was Australian or American he could have won. Or he had a little more mental fortitude. The guy was talented but was carrying the hopes of all of England.

I reckon Tim Henman could have been a champion if he had been a better tennis player...no matter what country he came from...

He rode 2006. Check it. He deliberately left the track, to try and test his potential

but having reread that i now know what you are on about.. i think im turning dislexic..

oh i agree.. they wanted him for TT'ing and that suited him.. it benefit both sides pretty well..
Dimspace, I just reckon you fell for the talking point and soundbite, that Wiggo was a chrono rider par excellence, when his results never justified it. It was all on the back of the pursuit.

And a few riders, Phinney, Thomas, Bobridge, Sergent, are gonna blow his pb away. Even his pb in training. And Thomas and Bobridge will be lighter, and much lighter at Wiggo's pursuit weight, but lower than his Tour weight in 2009.

The pursuit was a weak field. Roulston left the track behind for years, had heart troubles, and picked up and went 4'16" in the Olympics. One year older than Wiggo. What would have Rolly done if Bike NZ had the resources of GB Cycling, and he rode the pursuit for 8 years. Hendo reckons the pursuit times can come way down with specialisation. He was a chrono champ and pursuit champ of NZ about a decade back. He was also second in the Catalunya prologue this year to Valverde.

Throw all these riders in the pursuit, with Wiggo's resources and specialization, and they threaten.

But none could have done, apart from these new young guys, what Wiggo did in the Tour this year. None.

Vandevelde was a 4'30" rider in 2000 Olympics, yeah, a fair way behind Hayles. But dare say, given the same resources and specialization, he comes way down. He probably was not even training indoors. Farrar, Renshaw, Boonen, Cancellara, all those guys, would be lower than Wiggo's mark imo.

I reckon he was good enough to win, in the right circumstances. Andy Murray will win tho.

shame the pursuit has gone really from the olympics. .the competition could be amazing.. that said for brads case im glad it has.. far too much of a distraction for him..

of course a certain american referred to him as the "greatest pursuiter of all time"

it is better for Wiggins in the respect that, he was not gonna win, the winner will be (hypothetically) 4'11 or so. And he gets a legacy no one can beat. However, the legacy is lessened in value, because the discipline is extinct.

Later today it is to be announced that Brad Wiggins will sign with the Biritsh Team Sky at thier press conference. Vaughters has confirmed that Wiggo has wanted to go to Sky.

Firstly this transfer asks many questions;

Can Sky support Wiggo?
Where does this leave Lovkist?
If Garmin is Wigan then what does that make Sky?
Does the Wiggins transfer open the tour leadership spot to Vandevelde or Farrar?

He will definitely miss Garmin and Vandevelde although I believe Vandevelde would have and will finish higher in the gc than Wiggins anyway.

Lovkvist is left feeling pretty unhappy and disappointed. I don't think that he will make that much of an improvement over 2009 to be able to garner support as the team's protected rider. Maybe it will motivate him to train that much harder to show he's worthy. Sky would be smart to not put all their support behind Wiggins and go in with a wide ranging strategy with hopes of winning stages while at best getting Wiggins a top 5 finish in the gc.

What is "Wigan"???

I think Garmin will have the same strategy for the Tour as 2009. Putting all their support behind Farrar I think would do a disservice to Vandevelde and Martin.

noticable compared with the RS monstrosity, the lack of branding.. bike manufacturer, name, team name on saddle post, and thats it.. wonderfully simple and classy..

and so pleased its black and blue like the HD colours..

I think Garmin has got a good deal here. They will be able to focus on CVV an American with good backing and have little leadership squabbles. Wiggins looked like he was totally out of it when he was being interviewed. I think also that Wiggins has gotten a bit too big for his boots when saying "i'm a better rider than Amrstrong".

Personally I think this is Wiggins striking while the iron is still hot. There is a tremendous risk that he underwhelms next year. No TTT. Lots of climbing in the final week. Not a very strong GT team at Sky. This is about money.

+1

With the liklihood that multitudes of riders will be returning to the 2010 Tour with better form (Menchov if he competes, Sastre, Armstrong and Evans), with a year of added experience (Nibali, Kreuziger, Andy Schleck, Contador) and others that may have crashed out (Gesink, Leipheimer, Soler) or just returning after suspension (Basso and maybe Vino) it is very unlikely that he'll be able to replicate the 4th place in the gc from 2009.

As Publicus says, he's making the most of his market value while he's still rolling on the high from his Tour surprise performance. 2010 will be back to reality for Wiggins.

Good call!

He was Wiggo in Garmin - now that he is at Sky Wiggy is more appropriate.

If Sky bomb next year we can call him Wiggan.

Angliru, Wigan is a crappy EPl soccer team (English premier league). Man Utd is obviously one of if not the best (don't follow soccer so don't know if they are the best). Wiggo was saying Garmin was Wigan, so really what does that make Sky if personaaly I feel that Garmin are a better GC team than Sky

Arsenal are the best. Debate over. That was quick. :D

Spain have the best national football team. Though the poms are pretty good right now. Loose Rooney and they have problems.

Dim...this was in response to someone who said Henman might have been champion if only he hadn't the weight of the british empire on him...please don't quote without context...if you are going to be a Wiggy supporter...be fair, and get used to justifying losing...

After signing with sky...he will get tons of brit media coverage...ie the weight of Britain will be on his shoulders...and then he will use that as an excuse...either way, he made a bad decision I believe...but he will become a media guy for British cycling which is maye the point...one mediocre result and this?

Come on...

Hey, ask yourself this...why isn't Cav biting the Sky deals? and don't think they have not offered...
