Heard the press room at the #Giro "cheered" when Wiggins crashed on a wet descent today. If true, that is completely f'd.

I'd like to see every 1 of those journos mount up and scream down a slick/steep downhill at upwards of 50 mph. Then we'll see who's cheering

I surely don't give a Crap what that A**hole has to say :D Just Go Away Lance.

Wrong to say journalists in press room clapped when Wiggins went down. More like a 'wow, big favourite in trouble, this is a story.'

Pathetic clowns. Anyone who roots purposefully against someone is not a real cycling fan.

Lance isn't exactly a paragon of truth. He is likely just lashing out against the journalists who he believes have betrayed him.

I'm not going to be outraged by hearsay. It's not like Lance was in the room. I'm sure there was bruhaha of a sort in the press room, as this Giro just got more interesting, but I sincerely doubt it was cheering. Some sycophant probably reported to Lance as such, to feed the Texan's bitterness.

Aha, that makes sense.
Neal Rogers had originally tweeted about a "cheer" from the press room, but later said it was from the back of the room.
So it certainly wasn't a majority and indeed may not have been journos.

Although, if it was - oddly I am with La on this one, it would be poor form - but more so a surprise, so Walshs tweet makes sense.

Armstrong? I sort of remember him. Pretty scant palmares for as long of a career as he had. Isn't he that guy who the one time he rode the Giro, he led the protest to not race in Milan because there were a few cars parked here and there, and he never had the ball to race Paris-Roubaix because it was "barbaric"? It does not really seem like he's the one to call people cowards.

Wiggins is a bike racer, so to a bike racer scream down a slick/steep downhill at upwards of 50 mph is part of the job.

bull****.

Really odd last couple of days riding by Wiggo. Not making much of an effort in the climbs, leading the peleton to the 3k yesterday, constantly looking around himself. Doesn't look like someone who's going to last three weeks at the moment, but why? In order of most probability I'd say

a - Got the fear
b - After the tour, winning the Giro, pffft
c - Doesn't like or trust the bike

Am hoping he can still turn it around. Get your **** in gear!

Wiggins is using the Giro as build up for the Tour, i'am sure of that
He want to go for the double and the best way is to come to Giro wittout good form the problem is that it may not be enough

Well I was never for him....but when you get dropped going up and ride like an old woman going down what do you expect?

Neither was I.

Nothing. Just saying that more than a few of those who voted for Wiggins to win il Giro have already changed their opinion after just 1 week of racing, that's it :)

Lotta rubbish being spouted here as usual. I cant see any evidence that wiggins isnt climbing well or isnt 'in form'. The problem he has is that he doesnt fancy the risky stuff, e.g. Descending on slippery roads. He's not a rider like contador or nibali who are aggressive racers willing to take risks, thats not how he grew up as a rider. He's basically an old-fashioned TTer who tries to win GTs by winning the TTs and not losing time in the other stages. If the weather improves in the Giro and there's no more dodgy descending to be done then i think he can still win but if it is wet for the TT and maybe for other lumpy stages then i think he's gonna struggle

Technically Wiggins 'could' still win the Giro. But what we saw today increases my thought that he won't. He was at the back a lot it seemed and not up at the front where he should have been. To me this says his form may not be so good. And after his problems he seemed to give up very quickly. To me this says he doesn't have the motivation.

Either he bounces back with a strong TT performance and goes on to podium or he gives up and we don't see much of him the rest of the Giro (maybe comes in an anonymous top 10) or leaves the race to prepare for the Tour. Right now I'm betting he doesn't podium.

Tomorrow tells us everything, he either kills the ITT and his playing safe looks sensible, knowing he wont lose any time on the climbs, or he doesn't kill the TT and he's going to miss the Top 10 / abandon. This time tomorrow all will be clear.
