I remember watching in utter disbelief just last year when the Ethiopian woman smashed the old record by over 2 minutes. This now means in the space of just one year over 4 minutes has been taken off that record!2:09:56 women’s marathon WR today in Chicago. 2 Minutes faster than previous record and only 8% behind men’s WR which seems to be closer than in most other distances.
Shoe tech hasn’t improved much in years to my knowledge. This is about as extreme as what we’re seeing in cycling. Completely unbelievable.I remember watching in utter disbelief just last year when the Ethiopian woman smashed the old record by over 2 minutes. Either the shoe-tech has reached utterly ridiculous levels, or there's some new stuff going around which the women are responding to particularly well.
One difference is that elite distance runners ( many, but not just, Kenyans) keep getting busted, while it’s seems a long time since a well-known pro road cyclist gets busted for EPO, steroids, AiCAR, etc. ( I don’t put Quintana’s trazadone violation in the same category).Seems the runners are getting their hands on similar stuff as the cyclists.
(or they found a few "generational talents" as well, and we are simply witnessing history)
