A few years ago I noticed a woman's purse with the contents scattered along the side of the highway. I stopped and walked up and down both sides of the road gathering up photos, her driver's license, credit cards, etc. then rode home and called her. I Fed Exed her items the next day and when she received them she called me. She was very irate claiming there was $20 missing and that I must have kept it! So much for my good deed.

A couple of months later riding on the same highway, I saw a man's wallet. I just kept riding.

A snake with its head raised, alongside the road. When I approached it, I first thought it was a rubber tyre, but when I came closer I noticed it had beady eyes, and besides being black, had a creamy belly. Only at the last moment I understood what it was, I swerved around it.

On another day I heard a noise, flapping and rustling of leaves, coming from the trees. I looked to the right and I saw what I think was a vulture (skinny neck, pretty ugly, looked like a turkey) sitting on top of a dead deer, presumably road kill.

For the rest, mainly cars and other cyclists...

Single-speed old Schwinn tandem. Obviously lost from a recrational rental company, but in no shape that they would want it back (good chance they tossed it rather than paying disposal fees). Cleaned it up, put on some working brakes from the junk parts box. 2 somewhat used tyres from the shed, and it is a working deathtrap at my parents cabin. I take friends on it when I want to give them a scare.

headless horses and cattle in a certain section of fontana,ca in the 90's.
also surprised a cailfornia golden eagle that was taking care of business by the side of the road. it's partner was up above. it took off and glided in front of me,
like a B-17 taking off. very impressive. the other day i passed a tarantula on
the shoulder on my way out to santiago canyon. always something.

Not really what was found on a ride but a funny story never the less:

I was doing a charity ride earlier in the year (a metric century) and we were about 10km into the ride and there was a short decent. You probably couldn't even call it that, i guess i was just one of those sort of downhill slopes where you still manage to hit a pretty decent speed (about 45km in this case). As we are going down the buch was slowly starting to spread out about gaps of 10 metres or so, when all of a sudden this $20 note comes flying back at me, just misses me and the guy behind me caught it. I'm pissing myself laughing, the guy behind me is pissing himself laughing and the guy infront of me is none the wiser and $20 out of pocket.

I still remember it as though it was yesterday. So i guess you can say i found $20 on a ride but i didn't get to keep it.

I am glad my reflexes were in better shape than my legs then ;)

Coming from the Netherlands, the most exciting animal in the wild I have seen must have been a sparrow...

Found a photocopier next to the road this morning. Wouldn't be so strange if I lived in a city and rode to work through an through an industrial/ office area, except I found this piece of office hardware sitting on a plastic pallet at least a kilometre away from the nearest town.

I've found all sorts of things on the side of the road over the years; a few mini-pumps, a pair of binoculars, an entire outdoor setting (set up next to some dirt jumps on a closed road reserve), a multi-tool I hadn't realised I dropped the evening before, lots of neoprene stubbie coolers, abandoned bikes (again not strange in the city but a bit weird miles from the nearest town), CDs, bidons, snakes, lizards, road kill of all shapes sizes and degrees of decomposition, a bloke with a broken collarbone and a cracked frame, half a tonne of glass, nails and rivets...

Where are you folks riding?

Treasures all around! I never really thought much about what / if I find things.

this year in the snow a couple miles from town. "Lucky"

From time to time I collect dandelion greens, nettles, and wild mushrooms, Agaricus species, Pleurotus sp, Honey caps, Grifola frondosa and a few other common varieties.

I have to pay more attention to the road.

80g ipod with pictures of a great girl from Brazil, put it on CL nobody ever claimed it.I would have loved to meet her! Also went on apple website but unit was never registered. Found Blackberry, turned into a 2 and half year relationship with a posh girl. Found a wallet of a hostess at Gramercy Park Hotel, never followed up for my free drinks, mostly because she was 10-15 years younger than me. 90 dollar wad with a rubber band around it,it looked like a lot more money. Found eye glasses in a case, dropped it in Soho at the shop where it was purchased, clerk told me glasses were worth 800 dollars. Found a 3300 dollar deposit check that was given to a contractor for home repairs, I found it while walking the dog,he lost it @5 hours before I found it. 1 beer for a reward.

I've never really picked up anything on a ride. Either it was too mangled or not worth picking up.

I did drop a bike light once after hitting a big bump. So my buddy went back for it until a car ran it over.

Found $50 today!

I almost found one dollar the other day. On a MUT I came up behind a group of girls taking up the whole path walking the same direction I was travelling. One was doing something with her hands, and a single dollar bill flew in the wind back from her. She did not notice. I thought about picking it up, but thought better about it and told the girl when I passed.

How have only two people found road porn on here? The season does not begin for me until I find road porn, happens at least 4-5 times a year. The main road I ride is a very tourist heavy road (to the grand canyon) so I don't know if that has any effect on it.
Another thing I find a lot of are windshield wipers. Seems like I am always hopping over those. Unfortunately, diapers are not that uncommon either.
