There‘s got to be a Vertical meter threshold below which altitude is faster and above which it‘s slower, because the reduced air reaistance isn’t that helpful on climbs. I doubt 1500 meters is that much faster anyway. Overall, the average speed might be slightly higher than it would have been at sea level, but not by much.
Of course enough climbing and the altitude impedes average speed. But I don't think this applies here because the average speeds are still above 40.

If you go really high, like 3000m, the reduction in aerobic power outweighs the reduction in wind resistance, so they'd be slower than sea level again. 1400m is near the sweet spot for max speed.

Given that the winner spends most of the day cruising around far below LT2, the reduced oxygen means very little added fatigue for them prior to the spicy part of the race (last 20% or less). But it does mean that the flat sections of the race will be several kph faster.

The Man to Watch is here! Chumil after his escapades and tribulations at the Vuelta, is back baby! Yeah! Hope he gets into the break and everyone else forgets about him out there. A worthy World Champ, I reckon. ... Vamos!:)

How much humidity and pollution is there in Canada? 😅
In the cities it @50-75% filthy..
99.9% of Canada is pristine, that includes the land used for timber, mining and petroleum..
Canada is a clean and beautiful country. ..it's mostly empty and dangerous.. Bears, moose, snow, ice, rain, ..you should not go there, especially around Banff..or Banff National Park.. It's nasty around there, you will likely be disappointed..
And Calgary Stampede is not fun like you might hear.. People are really low key and stories of all night fun and eating, drinking and dancing are mostly hype..
Very little of that kind of stuff goes on.
And you might hear that Indian food in Canada is as good as India.. again that probably just unfounded rumors.
If you hear that hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, mountain biking, motorcycling are great in Canada ..most of that is people puffing up underwhelming experiences.. That's what I heard. Did I mention the people of Canada have a reputation for being short tempered and hard to get along with.. A very anti beer culture.. That's what a friend told me.

The thing I personally hate about Canada is the lack of trees, they plant a few here and there but Yuma Arizona is a better place all around. Especially if you like trees.. Yuma is known for trees. also low humidity.

Maybe Roglic wakes up tomorrow, realizes he gives a sh!t, and decides to stomp, eh?

I mean, this is the interesting dynamic. Plausible tactic to get Rogla up the road. If there’s a group with the right composition they ride and the chase falters. Then what?

I had a really odd dream last night that involved me cycling around on Pogacar's white Colnago with the rainbow bands. My takeaway from this is that either myself or Pogacar are winning today.

Roglic got there late, and I feel that means a lot on this particular worlds course. Wouldn't expect too much from him, I hope he realizeses pretty early that he can't win himself and actually tries to help the mega-favorite instead of going for his own glory.

He came straight from altitude though. People suffering didn’t do altitude training

Double-digit number of laps for the recon.

He didn't come any later than Evenepoel before the TT.

Above all I hope that we get a great race.

The last three Worlds were won by the favourites, Remco Evenepoel in 2022, Mathieu van der Poel in 2023 and Tadej Pogacar in 2024, so chances that we get a surprise winner like on the women's race yesterday are small.

Biggest favourite has to be Pogacar. Its true that he didn't look good in the TT but the route suits him really well and he looked got in Montreal so I think that he will be ready but will need to be very attentive of early moves because the Slovenian team is not stellar.

Remco is the second favourite for me. I don't think the course is that good for him as there is not that much flat but he is in great shape and has a strong Belgian team to back him.

Pidcock is my third favourite. I think the route suits him decently, he comes in great shape from the Vuelta and already showed the endurance to challenge for these longer races unlike riders like Del Toro or Ayuso. Healy and Skjelmose are two other riders that I will keep under my radar too.
