I'm not talking about the help Remco got, but the help the chase group didn't get because of him being behind. Without his second mechanical there is a real chance Belgium would've continued hammering it until it got to 30s; as it was, Remco ended up behind, the chase lost impetus, and Healy and co buried themselves for a bit of gain. That was the luck – I don't think Evenepoel is any more tired than he would've been, but he would've been closer for when he attacked.
Yeah, I agree with you. Remco had bad luck but I still think he was dumb to stop where he did.

Sure, he got dropped fair and square, but without Remco's two mechanicals the Belgian team would've kept riding and kept it much closer – Healy and co got it to 30 seconds at one point. Hard to know how much impetus the chase lost without the Belgians (and without Van Wilder) but it looked like a lot.

The fact it was a bad decision is shown, to me, by Pogacar storming the cobbled climb every time he goes up it – as everyone knew would happen. He is obviously the strongest rider in the race, and he is obviously the strongest rider since Merckx, but he got away with a tactical error.
Nah, it was more important that Pogi got unlucky with the motos.

Going long ensures that stamina decides. He's still the strongest now.

He would never have beaten Pog even without the mechanicals.

But after mount kigali I thought remco might pull out of the race.

I think a medal today makes him the most medaled Worlds rider at the age of 25. 8 medals: 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.

Not bad.
I think you should separate ITT and RR. Especially as the ITT has not been around for so long and is much more specialized, but of course prestigious. Not knocking that.

However, Valverde has seven medals in just the RR and I would still hold that much higher than the above.
