Has there been some sort of unprecedented increase in funding in Scandinavian athletics in the past 5 years or so
Danes and Norwegians have been really good in the youth categories for years now. It's only quite recently that (mainly in Denmark) it seems to be paying off.

With someone like Philipsen it also remains to be seen if he still has the physical advantage in a few years. He seems to be quite a big guy for his age, compared to a Nordhagen who looks like a pre-teen compared to him.

Is he entered for the Junior XCO race.......

To answer the question on the commentary, he's on Canyon CCLTV, same team as Schwarzbauer, Lecomte, Burquier.

Canyon should start writing the cheque now to make sure he stays with one of their teams going up.

Would not be opposed to see him go the Alpecin way, even more with their availability to combine XCO and road programs.

What a race from Philipsen, for a rider this young he looks superb.

I agree that Sierra looked the second strongest rider in the race but he didn't do his fair share of the work. Fietzke and Kristoff are deserved medalists.

I think the course while hard was just too punchy for a rider like Nordhagen who seem to be more of a diesel (probably not on a great day either).

Norwegian commentators talked about this covid-generation that, in lack of competitions, has had an impressive dedication to training and being really serious about all aspects of the sport as well as having great versatility.

Although the course didn't fit Nordhagen today. I can't begin to describe how ridiculous it is that he also was top 10 in the national championship in cross country skiing in Norway. He can beat world class skiers who has only been skiing their entire career.

These young guys are different.
