World Championships 2023: Men's Road Race (August 6)

If a name as big as Girmay can't get into the country due to your inane visa system, that's 'you should not be hosting major international sporting events for the foreseeable future' territory. Where's the World in World Championships if the best African rider is barred from racing for no good reason?

The devil will be in the details.

I read that 3 other Eritreans (reportedly) have been granted their visas, so there's clearly a snafu somewhere in the paperwork. I'd be super curious to know what the sticking point is.

It was pointed out earlier that the ProTeam riders have been granted their visum, whereas the WorldTour riders haven't. I would not be shocked if some moron at the Home Office saw the word 'Pro' on three applications but not the four others and decided that that meant only the former three would be allowed entry.

Apparently (after digging a little) this deleted tweet was Intermaché themselves stating Girmay was out of the Glasgow Worlds due to his crash in San Sebastian on Saturday.

Some big time intrigue going on.

This reminds me of how I oncer wanted to go eat at an Olive Garden during a trip to the US.
Then when I wanted to be served alcohol, I had to walk to the car to get my passport in order to prove I was older than 21. During this walk I realised I was actually too sick to eat or drink anything.

Not getting to eat at that Olive Garden is one of the biggest disappointments of my life (so far).
I'm sure Biniam feels the same way about not getting to ride the WC.

I don't like olives.

Did you not get enough hugs when you were young?

Both can be true at the same time, but then it becomes a purely political discussion which is banned.

And we'll likely never know the reasons anyway, so arguing over it would be a moot point. It was sort of a rollercoaster couple of hours for quite a few Twitter users & media outlets, i.e. visa troubles, withdrawing from the race due to injury, deleting that Tweet... & then reposting it.
