Where is Bernard Hinault when we need him?

Fairly sure the carbon footprint of WT cycling is terrible.

Maybe, but the optics are what they are. And considering Scottish road traffic is just normally going about its daily business then we're left with oil protestors protesting bikes whilst cars, trucks & whatever trundle around as per usual. It looks comical.

And this is starting to have an actual impact on this WC the longer it goes on. The whole point is it's a 270km endurance slog without a break.

It’s about the worst possible way to protest, because whatever the message they are trying to spread, it won’t b

So you're saying they should stop the motorway, nowhere near a global event and that would be a lot better?

Yes they usually cement themselves

I imagine it will be the GB sponsors that will have triggered them, at least the countryside looks really nice.

And yet Rick's point stands, WT cycling's carbon footprint is probably quite bad. No point shifting the goalposts to optics or whatever, IMHO. Most activities we love have contradictory effects in the current institutional setups, after all. And no, this is not saying that the protesters tactics are, erm, very good.

Also, as the Punch was invoked, Chuck D* put it best: Hinault was a hero to most / But he never meant sith to me.

Personally speaking I'm saying they should f-off.

It's a pointless protest carried out by self-aggrandising attention seekers role playing at protesting. 'Stop Oil' is just the latest craze to afflict the minds of gullible middle-class university goers with too much spare time on their hands.

This is just my opinion of course.

Its Daily Mail readers I feel sorry. Imagine their dilemma - do we support the cyclists or the people stopping the cyclists?
The Daily Mail-arguably the world’s greatest newspaper. What time do they hit the circuit? I have to burn some plastic and waste engine oil first.
