Never thought that could work.

Still don't think it can work, attack at 100km from the end on this course. Can't work.
Smart attack. Got help from Tratnik.

Attacked from the other group. Got help from Sivakov.

Others being in disarray behind.

Solo the last 50k, where everybody is spent and it is hard to cooperate for a chasing group with only leaders left.

Perfect scenario for the strongest guy in the race. Eliminating the team tactics factor. Just having the balls to go early and the talent/ability to pull it off. You will have to beat be by being stronger.

Who knows what happens if Remco and MVDP responds to his first attack and neutralizes it. We will never know.

This was the most exciting way this race could have been going.
The alternative was Pog going 2 laps from the finish and immediately building up a 3 minute advantage.
Pog would have won in any scenario.

Yes, in retrospect Pog basically held a 50sec gap for 100km.

Looked dicey near the end but he recovered.
He definitely could have been caught IF there was a highly coordinated effort to reel him back in, but by going that far out and maintaining the gap consistantly, psychology plays a huge factor here. In the end, its crazy but tactically it worked out.

You know Evenepoel is *** the moment Van Gils pulls off and Evenepoel attacks the flat section instead of uphill.
Even after that they could have caught him with less Remco gestures, but that‘s group 2 syndrome. I guess this means him attacking 100 k out was the only way he could make it about the tactics of the chasers instead of just winning by force. I would have liked to see if Van der Poel could have followed if the attack had come later when he would have known he was gonna go.

The commentators here are trying to make the viewers think that what they watched was amazing. One of them even insisted it was the best world championship he could remember! I think it was one of the worst.
yes I agree, they are surely coached in what they must say

He just finds an angle from which to moan, it's his speciality.
Remco comes from the ..a good loser is a loser school!!
Pogacar would have been disappointed, but his post race comments, he puts a ton of pressure on himself and really knows how to put a positive perspective on whatever happens.
MvdP in pre race interviews said, we have to race we can't just give Pog the jersey.. he was wrong!! The guy is dynamic in every aspect of bike racing!!
O'Connor, Healy, Hirschi, all rode great!!
Bauke Mollema put in a solid ride for anyone, but for old people, nice to see 37 year old still has some juice.
Pogacar has just out classed everyone all year

So. The best rider in the world is now the reigning world champion. Can't really be against that. But to be honest, it doesn't warm my heart, a +100 km show of 1 rider. Not really propaganda for our beloved sport, but that's just my honest opinion. Congratulations Pogacar, either way.

Thanks to the other guys in the top ten for making it at least a tiny bit exciting in the end. Remco was good, but not super after a long season with a strong injury comeback already. And of course his own big highlights. Belgium not that great overall, we obviously missed Wout today.
