But was Evenepoel even going all out?

DNP-Old said something about gear restrictions? And he didn't look very exhausted in the finish.

Those are valid comparisons, but neither of those have come close to doing what Evenepoel is doing in road races as well. It's not uncommon to have a young very talented time trialist, who's a level above everyone else, but it is indeed very rare to have that same rider also dominating the road races.

You can make kinds of comparisons to put Evenepoels performance in perspective. Here is another one: When Bjerg won the U23 TT last year by more than a minute, he was only about two months older than Evenepoel.
But then you have to take into consideration that Bjerg is a pure time trialist who has only started developing his climbing this year. Evenepoel barely weighs more than 60 kilograms and is a future GT-rider.

How? Bjerg is from November 1998, Evenepoel is from January 2000.

In Juniors you can't use the same gearings as a U23 or pro. You are restricted to 52x14.

You have quite a mix, when you look at the guys in the top 3 of the junior class. Some of them became world class riders like Cancellara, Kittel, Kwiatkowski, Degenkolb or Jungels. Others are great domestiques like Durbridge, Knees, Phinney. And then there are those who vanish once they enter the pro ranks. So it's really difficult to forecast things out of these results. You just can state the quality of the riders right now.

Sure. But it's a common thing that the best junior riders dominate all kinds of races. But hey, Evenepoel is still insane. No doubt about that.

That's about 14 months, right? Last year Bjerg would be roughly two months older, than what Evenpoel is now.

Oh... I thought you were talking their ages compared to each other back then...

You do realise, that the age gap does not change over time, right? :p

That was part of what confused me…
"Bjerg got older, but Evenepoel didnt?"

Evenepoel is 14months younger than Bjerg.
It is normal as long as Evenepoel is not 1 minute faster than Bjerg.

A general warning - Please stop the obvious implications around this discussion. There is a place for that to be discussed and it isn't here.

You mean… the implication that Evenepoel is a time-traveller? :p

Side note: it's hard to believe that Marcel Kittel has won the junior's ITT twice. I thought he could only ride fast for 200 meters!?
