Side note: it's hard to believe that Marcel Kittel has won the junior's ITT twice. I thought he could only ride fast for 200 meters!?

He won his second title on the old Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which is very hilly. So he could also climb well. :D

Plus third in U23 and European Champion in U23. Then he became a pro and was a super sprinter. Just like this.

But was Evenepoel even going all out?

DNP-Old said something about gear restrictions? And he didn't look very exhausted in the finish.

In Juniors you can't use the same gearings as a U23 or pro. You are restricted to 52x14.

You have quite a mix, when you look at the guys in the top 3 of the junior class. Some of them became world class riders like Cancellara, Kittel, Kwiatkowski, Degenkolb or Jungels. Others are great domestiques like Durbridge, Knees, Phinney. And then there are those who vanish once they enter the pro ranks. So it's really difficult to forecast things out of these results. You just can state the quality of the riders right now.

Why there is restriction for gearings? It is ridiculous...

There's probably a good amount of synergy between TT strength and sprinting. I reckon Wiggins and Cancellara could have been strong sprinters too just from performance potential, not necessarily mentality.

Sprinters are often good in short TTs also if they want to be.

It's not. It's to avoid injury and to let juniors developed a healthy cadence.

Even when I raced long time ago there were gear restictions.
Absolutely necessary and a very good thing.

Agreed. They've been around for a long time but they don't really make much sense if you get down to it.

Exactly. It's to avoid young riders destroying their knees by overusing big gears. It used to happen so so much before the junior gears rules.

I'm very excited to see Dumoulin vs Dennis today. It should be a great battle. A little disappointed there's no Roglič to make it a three way battle but I fully understand his decision to concentrate on the Road Race.

For the 3rd place it's a really open affair IMO. I think Tratnik could surprise people. Maybe not for a medal but he can do better than his 10th place from last year, maybe even close to a top5.

On paper, Tratnik has a really good TT record this year. But that's until you look at the opposition. The time trials in Tour of Slovenia and Ruta del Sol are probably the most hotly contested TT's, that he made results in, and in none of those cases did he beat any of the top time trialists in the world.

I can see him in top 10, though. The hills are surely an advantage to him.

Dennis over one-hour is still a question mark?
He generally has been better in shorter TTs yes, but it's not like he's terrible at really long ones.

I just caught up on junior men tt. Michielson has the worst style I've ever seen on a bike.

Neither of these positions look very good to me, can't really agree with this TT fit. The second actually is better than the first. You would think someone competing at that level would have worked it out a long time ago. Maybe he's just trying to promote the bike-fitting service

Should be just over 20°C. No wind.
I find that crazy, imagine having a bike ride with no wind, I don’t think I’ve never had a bike ride around Scotland without the wind playing some part in it, I’d love a nice bike ride with no winds
